Words from the coach: Andrew is a 2 yr returning starter (3-year letter winner) and Pa Football News Coaches 3A 1st Team All-state Def Athlete along with all-conference selections on offense/defense. Andrew will be asked to step up this season and assume more of a leadership role filling the void left by the departures of Nate Harper/Peyton Faulkner. Led the team in receptions and yards and will need to improve on those #s to soften the blow of graduating (3 of the top 4 pass catchers last season…Faulkner, Johncour, Crawford).

With this being your final high school season, are you doing anything differently? If so, what?

I’ve been working even harder than I have in the past. That being in the weight room, on my speed and quickness, and chemistry with teammates. I think that we can have a special team this year.

Entering your final season at Avonworth, what goals have you set not only for yourself but for the team as well?

To win a Conference championship, a WPIAL championship, and a State championship.

Avonworth finished 11-2 last season. Which of the teams you lost to do you believe was the best, along with what made them so good?

Central Valley was a very tough opponent for us last year. They had great athletes and were coached very well.

What was the most shocking thing about the 2022 season?

I think the most shocking part about last season was coming up short of winning the WPIAL title. We worked extremely hard and didn’t get the outcome we wanted/expected. But with last year’s taste still, in our mouth, we have been working even harder and expect to win it this year.

What is the hardest part of playing high school football?

The hardest part about high school football is our conditioning camp. Coach Coffin, our strength coach, pushes us to become the best athletes we can be. It can be very difficult at times but is ultimately worth it by the time the season starts.

What are you going to miss most about the class of 2023?

I’m going to miss the leadership and experience we had with the class of 2023. Guys like Peyton Faulkner, Nate Harper, and Colin Crawford, showed great leadership for us last year. We also graduated 17 in the class. But, we have guys that will step up and fill in those gaps.

Where do you think the state finals should be played?

I would like for the state final game to be played at Hershey.

If you could change one rule when it comes to high school football, what would it be and why?

To be able to hurdle defenders. It would make for a lot more highlight-worthy plays.

If you could pick one opponent for Avonworth, who would it be and why?

North Catholic. We love the rivalry and competitiveness of the game.

Do you feel that you and your teammates are role models to the younger kids who come and watch you play?

Yes. We try our best to set a good example and interact with the younger, upcoming, generation.

Have you heard from any college coaches about playing at the next level? If yes, would you name one or two of the schools?

Yes. I visited New Hampshire, Maine, and Lafayette in the spring and have heard from D1 AA coaches. I will be attending camps at Sacred Heart and Davidson and my recruitment is very open.

What toppings go on your perfect pizza?

Pepperoni, sausage, and bacon.

What is your favorite class or subject?

Math

What is your favorite genre of music, along with your favorite song?

My favorite genre is hip-hop. I can’t pick a favorite song but I love Drake.
