Coach Burk says “He’s a tough gritty kid with a really strong arm to make all the throws. Loves competition and has a huge desire to win”!

LET’S GET TO KNOW DEREK

Why do you play football?

Because I love the way it brings out something different in everyone. It’s a game where there is no excuses and that you just need to get it done. The competitive drive it creates in kids can’t be done in any other sport, along with the brotherhood and family that is built no other sport truly compares.

It’s gameday! What are you looking forward to the most?

That first drive, whether it’s defense or offense coming out and straight up setting the tone.

Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?

Tom Brady. Hands down, the greatest quarterback of all time. The set backs he went through just to prove everyone wrong over and over again is ridiculous. Then his longevity as a player shows what he does off the field to make sure he is in pristine condition to play every week.

What are your goals for this coming season?

Take it one game at a time, eventually leading to a section title for the first time, then making big strides in playoffs by making it deep.

What stadium, HS/college/pro would you love to visit for a game?

The Big House. Michigans Stadium and atmosphere would just be ridiculous environment to see personally.

What sports movie would you watch every day if you had to pick one and why?

We Are Marshall. I absolutely love that movie. Being able to see what that team went through then build it back up to be a good program again after having nothing is amazing. Along with knowing our old head coach(Steve Scuillo) played at Marshall it makes it much better.

Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?

Hurdle someone. Since it is illegal in PA I will never try it in game, but I feel like being able to make that ridiculous of a highlight play will be something you would remember forever.

Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?

I would say my dad. I want to be like him in the way he is able to relate to kids and coach them. With kids rallying behind him at all times having his back. Then being there for his players at all time’s is something I want to experience as well.

Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?

I would say my best friends. They are at all of my games front row screaming their heads off. Then post game they always give me a talk win or lose on what could’ve went better and worse. But they are always in support of me. No matter what the sport or condition

When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?

I have built a liking for golf. It has become quite peaceful for me when playing it. I love being out playing and just being able to take my mind away from football for that 2-3 hours it takes.

Music of choice:

I personally go back and forth between 2000s rap and then songs to relax me like hooked on a feeling and Mambo No.5

What restaurant is your go to when you need a big meal?

As of recent I have became a big fan of Mad Mex. Their burritos are fantastic and fill you up every time, plus the variety will help you get a different taste each time.
