Dormont: Bishop Canevin forced four turnovers and held off Greensburg Central Catholic rally to up their record to 5-0 on the season.
“This was the first homecoming game that his group played that they have won,” said Bishop Canevin head coach Rich Johnson. “I’m so proud of these guys. They stuck with us and believed in us. I’m happy for our kids and our entire community.”
The two Eastern Conference foes fought through a scoreless first quarter, then into the second stanza.
Bishop Canevin finally broke the ice when Jayden Lindsey hauled in a 24-yard touchdown from Jason Cross midway through the second quarter.

The Crusaders had were stopped for times on downs in the Centurions end of the field, including twice the red zone during the first half.
Greensburg answered back late in the first half when Tyree Turner found Taishaun Jamison for an 11-yard touchdown.
The Crusaders responded right before halftime thanks to a short kickoff and a 15-yard penalty against the Greensburg.
Bishop Canevin to advantage as Cross scrambled around and was able to find Nelson, who caught the pass off a deflection with 25 seconds to play in the first half; the Crusaders led 13-7 at the break.
“They were ready to play, and we were not,” said Greensburg head coach Marko Thomas. “That’s what it came down to; we were a little too arrogant coming out. That showed this week in practice. We’re still on day one in terms of preparation. I take the blame for that. I called a lousy game.”
Cross came off the bench at quarterback and competed 5-of-12 pass for 95 with two touchdowns while intercepting a pass on defense. Kole Olszewski started at quarterback, going 6-for-8 for 58 yards.
“We put a lot his shoulders,” Johnson said of Cross. “We want him to through, and tonight he did. We love that kid, and we want to coach him hard.”
Keyshawn Harris, who led the Crusaders in rushing with 34 yards on 15 carries, scored on a 2-yard run with 5:09 left in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 20-7.
The Centurions responded on a 4-yard run by Turner on fourth down to close the gap 20-14.

Greensburg would get three more possessions but could enter Crusader territory one time before their final possession ended on downs.
“Our defense played all night long,” said Johnson. “We hang our hat on our on that side of the ball. We’re a defensive-minded football team.”
The yardage was even as Greensburg finished the night with 182 yards offense, while Bishop Canevin had 181.
The Crusaders will try and aim for 6-0 next week when they travel to Clairton.
“They’re a legendary team and program,” said Johnson. “We’re glad to be in the mix and have to opportunity to come out here every week and play hard.”
Greensburg Central Catholic will try and bounce back next week when they travel to Springdale.
“We have a lot of things we need to work on to get better next week,” Thomas concluded. “Our defense stepped up, but we’re still taking dumb penalties, and our offense has not caught up with our defense.”
