It was another impressive performance for Cadin Olsen on Friday in a 49-7 victory over Freeport. “Cadin has been a household name for a couple years” said Coach Fabian.

Freeport got the ball to start the game but went three and out. On Armstrong’s first drive they were driving down the field and they got as far as the Freeport 22 yard line, but after that the drive stalled and they turned the ball over on downs.

On the fourth play of Freeport’s second drive Ben Lane busted free for a 69 yard touchdown run which made the score 7-0 Freeport midway through the first quarter.

On the first play of Armstrong’s second drive they fumbled the ball and Freeport recovered. Suddenly they had a great opportunity to extend their lead, the drive started at Armstrong’s 22 yard line. They got as far the Armstrong 5 yard line and attempted a field goal but the kick was blocked. It was at that point where the game turned. “We got some momentum from that and then we went down and flipped the field position” said Coach Fabian.

Armstrong marched down the field their next drive and eventually tied up the score at 7 on a 15 yard run by Jaxson Crissman. The run game also played a key role in Armstrong’s win. “We were able to run the ball we haven’t been able to do that earlier in the year, they gave us some light boxes and we were able to take advantage of that” said Coach Fabian.

On the first play of the second quarter Armstrong took the lead for good when Cadin Olsen found Ian Olsen for a 23 yard yard touchdown pass. Cadin Olsen was the main factor in Armstrong’s win. He was 19 of 28 for 294 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes. He also had 128 yards rushing. “He’s really good at putting that ball in a place where our guys can get it” said Coach Fabian.

Later in the quarter Armstrong extended their lead when Cadin Olsen found his brother Ian Olsen for a second time, this one being a 31 yard pass. Ian Olsen had a monster night for Armstrong as well, he had 7 catches for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns. “He’s taken a big jump this year, they’re really getting a nice chemistry going” said Coach Fabian.

Freeport did nothing on their next drive and punted it away. Armstrong’s next drive started at the Freeport 48 yard line. Later that drive Cadin Olsen threw his third touchdown pass of the game this one being 4 yards to Jack Valasek. That made the score 28-7 at halftime.

Armstrong got the ball to start the second and again marched down the field with their uptempo offense. Eventually Alex Patton scored on a 1 yard run. That made the score 35-7 with 8:17 in the third quarter.

On Freeport’s first drive of the second half they went three and out Armstrong’s defense was another key to their win. “Our defense is playing really good” said Coach Fabian.

Armstrong’s next drive started at the 50 yard line and later that drive Cadin Olsen threw touchdown pass number 4 to Isaiah Brown for 8 yards. After that Armstrong and Freeport pulled their starters out of the game. Armstrong added one last score before the game ended making the final score 49-7 Armstrong.

Next week Armstrong opens up conference play when they travel to Hampton and Freeport hosts Mt. Pleasant in a non conference game.
