Canon Mac Shuts Out Trinity In Impressive Offensive Performance 48-0 @AngottRyan @nathangrella

Washington residents would be surprised that the last meeting between the Big Macs and Hillers occurred 10 years ago. Current Washington residents would also be stunned to learn the outcome of that game- a 19-18 Canon Mac victory. Since that time, both schools have suffered up and downs on the football field, however neither has had much success getting to, and winning in the postseason. Canon Mac hopes to change that narrative.

Part of the reason of the resurgence of the Big Mac football program has been a revitalization of the offense, and entering 2021, no team in 6A in the WPIAL had the continuity coming back on that side of the ball. Ryan Angott, who led the team in yards and carries in 2020, entered Hiller Stadium on a tear.

On the first drive, Angott led the Big Macs down the field and stormed into the endzone on 6 plays spanning 77 yards. All but one play on the drive were Angott rushes.

A goal line stand and a missed field goal for the Hillers on the next Canon drive kept Angott out of the endzone in the mid first, however, a QB sneak from Mike Evans put the Big Macs up 14 entering the 2nd Quarter.

The Canon Mac defense stood tall throughout, overpowering Trinity in the trenches, and holding the Hillers to only 37 rushing yards in the first half. Early in the Second Quarter, Angott would add to his touchdown total and capped a 150+ yard rushing night.

Mike Evans in the first half wasn;t only content to score with his arm, as with a minute left in the 2nd half, Evans dropped a pass right into the bread basket of Christopher Davis Jr. to put the fork in the Hillers and seal the Canon Mac victory with a minute left in the first half.

In the second, the Canon Mac Defense caused havoc against Trinity backups. Connor Steele would score twice, once on a blocked punt in the endzone, and once on a slant following a fumbled kickoff for the Hillers.

The real story of the game was in the stands. In 2020, Covid-19 robbed students from attending and watching their peers play on the field. However, at Hiller Stadium, both the Trinity and Canon Mac student sections put on a show, cheering and chanting at each other throughout the entire contest.

In the waning moments of the game, the Canon Mac section could be heard chanting “We Want Peters”. Indeed, the Big Macs will host another regional rival in the 5A runner up Peters Township next week in what will be an extremely anticipated matchup in the area. The Hillers will look to score their first points of the season at home against West Allegheny
