D is for dominant.

Elizabeth Forward limited North Catholic to 112 yards of total offense and blanked the Trojans 17-0 Friday night to punch their ticket to the WPIAL 3A title game.

“We had a great gameplan, and the kids came out here and executed it,” said Elizabeth Forward head coach Mike Collodi. “They played their rear ends. My guys felt they should’ve been the second seed overall. We had a chip on our shoulder.”

The Warriors offense was able to do just enough to pull through for the win. Andrew Smith provided the only points of the first half when he connected on a 25-yard field goal late in the first quarter.

North Catholic had an opportunity to tie the game, but Ethan Marsico misfired from 35 yards out in the second quarter.

The Trojans would go on to turn the ball over four times in the second half.

“We were down at halftime for the first time all season,” said North Catholic head coach Pat O’Shea. “I was interested to see how we’d respond. Unfortunately, when you turn the ball over, it’s hard. That’s a credit to them. They were hitting tonight.”

Nico Mrvos intercepted Joe Prentice in the third quarter that led to a 4-play 40-yard drive capped off by DaVontay Brownfield 5-yard run for the game’s first touchdown.

Brownfield finished the game with 35 yards on seven carries. Elizabeth Forward then put the game away on Mrvo’s 8-yard run with 7:29 to play.

“North Catholic is a great team, and I was nervous the entire game,” said Collodi. “I didn’t relax until the scoreboard showed zero.”

Mrvos finished the night with a game-high 80 yards on 15 carries. He added an interception on defense.

North Catholic had one final chance to get on the board, driving inside the Warriors 30-yard line. However, Prentice couldn’t handle the snap, and the fumble was recovered by Elizabeth Forward, who went on to run the clock out.

North Catholic concludes its season at 8-1.

“I told the kids that the better team won the game tonight, and that’s how it goes sometimes,” said O’Shea. “They played better in every phase of the game.”

Joe Prentice led the Trojans collecting 81 yards of total offense.

“We had a great season and to go 8-1, and I told the kids that I couldn’t be prouder of them,” said O’Shea.
