Tonight first place in the 3A Interstate Conference was on the line between Elizabeth Forward and Mt. Pleasant. It was expected to be a good one but Elizabeth Forward just dominated with ease in their 35-0 victory over Mt. Pleasant.

On the first drive Elizabeth Forward set the tone for the game. They started on their own 33 yard line and it only took them 3 plays to get into Mt. Pleasant territory down to the 41 yard line. On third down Zion White connected with Zach Boyd for a 40 yard touchdown pass. That made the score 7-0 Elizabeth Forward with 8:50 in the first quarter. “We got the momentum and then we never let go after that” said Coach Collodi.

Mt. Pleasant got the ball for the first time in the game and they had very little success by going three and out. They went to punt it away and the punt was blocked which set up Elizabeth Forward with excellent field position starting at the Mt. Pleasant 25 yard line. On the seventh play of the drive Elizabeth Forward extended their lead to 14-0 on a 3 yard run by Kyle Flournoy.

Mt. Pleasant desperately needed to get a drive going and their second drive was looking quite promising. A pass interference call got them into Elizabeth Forward territory. They got inside the 20 yard line, but after a couple of penalties and a negative play they had to punt it away.

Elizabeth Forward started their next drive at their own 10 yard line. They didn’t let that field position slow them down they just marched right down the field. The major play of the drive was when Zion White completed a pass to Charles Nigut which was a 40 yard pass play that got them to the Mt. Pleasant 33 yard line. After that Elizabeth Forward just ran the ball using several different runners. They finally extended their lead on a 3 yard touchdown run by Zion White. He played a key role in the win for Elizabeth Forward he had a little over 100 yards passing and close to 30 rushing. “The run game was there tonight, when we needed to pass we made some plays in the passing game” said Coach Collodi. That score made it 21-0 Elizabeth Forward with 4:13 left in the half.

Mt. Pleasant got the ball back and this drive was also looking promising. After a big pass play they were at the Elizabeth Forward 39 yard line. But after that the drive ended with an interception and again Mt. Pleasant came up with zero points on 2 long drives. The score at half was 21-0 Elizabeth Forward.

Mt. Pleasant got the ball to start the second half and they did nothing with the ball. Elizabeth Forward’s defense was locked in on the first drive and forced a punt.

Elizabeth Forward set the tone to begin the game on their first drive and they did the very same thing to start the second half. On the first play of the drive Zach Boyd was off to the races on a 43 yard touchdown run. Boyd played a key role in the game he had 3 catches for 65 yard yards he also had around 50 yards rushing and even had an interception on defense.

Mt. Pleasant got the ball back again but they couldn’t get anything going which was the story of the second half. On third down it got even worse when a pass was intercepted. Elizabeth Forward’s defense was relentless the entire night. “The defense played well forced multiple turnovers and also a blocked a punt, we were clicking on all cylinders tonight” said Coach Collodi. Believe it or not they did not score on that drive and the score remained 28-0.

Elizabeth Forward added one last score before the game ended and it was on a 20 yard fumble return by Kyle Flournoy. That made the final score 35-0 Elizabeth Forward. “Across the board it was a great team effort, the kids played out of their minds tonight” said Coach Collodi

Up next Elizabeth Forward has another crucial conference game when they travel to Southmoreland and Mt. Pleasant returns home to play South Park.
