Franklin Regional Defeats Plum in a Backyard Thriller

Friday evening the Plum Mustangs hosted the Franklin Regional Panthers and lost the game with a final score of 45-26.

Both teams tonight were looking to get their first conference win of the season.

Franklin Regional started off with the ball and opened up the scoring thanks to a field goal by junior kicker Joey Bayne.

Plum would get the ball and answer quickly scoring a three yard touchdown by senior wide reciever Jack Tongel with nineteen seconds left of the first quarter, but Plum fails on the PAT.

Plum would get an interception by junior safety TJ Futules quickly and senior quarterback Sean Franzi would run it into the end zone for a Mustangs touchdown only eighteen seconds later with one second left of the first quarter to give Plum an early 13-3 lead.

At the start of the second quarter, Plum would keep the pressure on the Panthers forcing them to punt and junior wide receiver Darian Nelson scoring a 56 yard touchdown to give Plum a 20-3 lead.

Franklin Regional would not going away that easy as junior running back Kyle Dupill runs it into the end zone from five yards out and only trailed 20-9 after the failed two point conversion heading into halftime.

At the start of the second half, the Panthers would force Plum to punt and junior running back Kyle Dupill would get his second touchdown of the game and also getting the two point conversion making this a field goal game.

Plum would answer three minutes later thanks to a 37 yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Zach Napierkowski giving Plum a 26-17 lead.

Franklin Regional on the following drive would march down the field and junior running back Kyle Dupill would punch in his third rushing touchdown of the game, this time from seven yards out making it a 26-24 Plum lead to end the 3rd quarter.

The Panthers would take the lead on their next drive as running back Kyle Dupill will get his fourth rushing touchdown and giving Franklin Regional their first lead since the first quarter, 31-26.

The Panthers extended their lead halfway through the fourth quarter as senior wide receiver Jailen Graham would take it to the house after an impressive run giving Franklin Regional a 38-26 lead.

Plum would then turn the ball over on downs and running back Kyle Dupill punched in his fifth rushing touchdown of the game in the final minutes, bringing the final score to 45-26.

Franklin Regional gets their first conference win of the season, improving their record to 4-2. The Panthers will host the Norwin Knights next week. Plum falls to a 2-4 record, and will travel to take on the South Fayette Lions next week. Both games are set to start at 7.
