Friday night the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets went to Mapletown to take on the Maples. The night was frigid, and the offenses were just as cold. The only score of the first quarter was Mapletown quarterback Max Vanata running up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown.

It wasn’t until almost halfway through the second quarter that another score was put on the board. This time it was Jefferson-Morgan with a Colin Bisceglia 2-yard touchdown run. A successful two-point conversion gave Jefferson-Morgan an 8-7 lead.

Neither offense did much of anything until Jonathan Wolfe broke a big run to get in the red zone with just 24 seconds left in the half. The Rockets offense could not advance any further, so Jefferson-Morgan led 8-7 at the half.

Mapletown came out of the half and got a stop on Jefferson-Morgan, including a 3rd down sack that pinned the Rockets back at the 2-yard line. After the punt, A.J. Vanata took the direct snap and got the Maples all the way down to the 3-yard line. On third and goal, Landan Stevenson just crossed the plain of the endzone. Mapletown took back the lead 13-8.

Jefferson-Morgan came out on the next drive and drove down the field. Approaching the end of the third quarter, Jonathan Wolfe powered through the middle to continue the back and forth action. This time the Rockets could not convert the two-point conversion and now led 14-13.

In the fourth quarter Jefferson-Morgan got down to the 1-yard line trying to extend its lead. Mapletown’s defense denied them and kept it at just a one-point deficit. The Maples could not get points on the board and gave the ball back to Jefferson-Morgan. The Mapletown defense forced a 4th and 9, but on that play Colt Fowler threw it up to Owen Maddich with two Mapletown defenders and Maddich pulled it down and went into the endzone. Jefferson-Morgan now led 20-13 with two minutes remaining.

Mapletown got down the field, but on the last play of the game Owen Maddich chased down Max Vanata for a sack. Jefferson-Morgan walked out with the victory over Mapletown 20-13.
