The Frazier Commodores were thought to be big favorites coming into Friday night’s matchup with the newest member of the WPIAL the Ligonier Valley Rams. They looked forward to be the second team to give a not so warm welcome back into the WPIAL, after Apollo Ridge had the honors the week prior beating the Rams 44-7.

All signs pointed to a blowout early, as Frazier recovered a surprise onside kick to start the game. Brayden Boggs would find Luke Santo in the endzone to give the Commodores a 6-0 lead. Following another Ligonier Valley interception, Boggs would hookup with Isaac Thomas for another touchdown and would extend the lead to 13-0.

Haden Sierocky would get the Rams on the board late in the first half with a 1-yard run that would cut the lead to 13-7. On the ensuing drive, Boggs and the Commodores would move the ball down the field, but on a third down and long Boggs was sacked and was injured on the play. He would miss the remainder of the game. On 4th down and long, Frazier backup Dominick Dorcon’s pass was intercepted and returned 74 yards by Junior Nick Beitel. The Rams would lead 14-13 at the half and would not look back.

Grant Dowden would find the endzone twice for the Rams in the 3rd quarter. First on a jet sweep on a 4th and goal, and on a 24-yard pass from Haden Sierocky. To start the 4th Sierocky would rush for his second rushing touchdown of the night.

The Rams would hang on and win 35-19 on the road for their first win in the WPIAL since 1969. The win is an important one for the Rams who are a very young team, who dress only one senior on the roster.

It is a tough loss for Frazier, not only on the scoreboard but in terms of personnel as both starting Quarterback Brayden Boggs and starting-running back Kenny Fine were injured in the first half and didn’t return.

Ligonier Valley will host Steel Valley at home next week, and Frazier will travel to play the first place McGuffey Highlanders.
