Two teams who previously haven’t had much success in the WPIAL playoffs met on Friday night. Mohawk came into the game looking for their 3rd WPIAL playoff win in school history, where Chartiers-Houston was searching for their first playoff win in over 15 years.
Mohawk got on the board first with touchdown pass from John Voss to Joe Reed. The Buccaneers were able to answer with a touchdown pass of their own to Jake Mele. The PAT was no good making it 7-6 Mohawk after the end of the first.

With just a few seconds left in the half, Voss would find Jimmy Guerrieri all alone in endzone to give the Warriors a 21-12 lead going into the second half. After Chartiers-Houston nearly returned the opening kick-off of the second half for a touchdown, the Mohawk defense put together a goal line stand and kept their lead 21-12.

This proved to be the real turning point in the game, as Mohawk was able to maintain possession for most of the second half and added a few more late scores to arrive at the final score 34-12.

Mohawk, the tenth seed in class 2A, will take on Sto-Rox next week at a sight to be determined. For Chartiers-Houston, their season will come to a close in what was a disappointing night for the “Century” conference, as all four playoff teams fell.
