Montour defeats South Fayette in close contest

Entering in this Week 2 Game of the Week match up, the Montour Spartans were undefeated at 2-0, winning against Mars 37-28 and Moon 35-21 both at their opponents home territory. South Fayette Lions also came into the game undefeated, 2-0, against Chartiers Valley 42-14, and against West Allegany 31-14, one away and one home. 

Both of these teams are very well balanced on the offensive side if the ball. South Fayette having over 200 rushing yards and 100+ passing yards in the past two games. 

Game started out hot, with Montour muffing the kickoff and South Fayette picking up the fumble. But that high didn’t last long, as South Fayette fumbled in 2 plays, giving the ball back to Montour. 2 turnovers in 40 seconds.

South Fayette marched down the field with a big reception from Dom Monz, putting the Lions inside the 10. QB Nico Lamonde runs it in for 6, and the PAT good by Matt Marcinko.

The Spartans and Lions both put up points in the start of the 2nd quarter, but the Lions put up more with a touchdown, going up 14-6 with 8:50 left in the first half of play

Montour scored their first touchdown at the 7:30 mark in the 2nd Quarter, but missed the 2 point conversion try, still behind by 2 points, 14-12.

Almost immediately after Montour scored, South Fayette scores another touchdown on a 50+ yard touchdown pass by Nate Deanes, leading 21-12 with 5:52 remaining in the first half.

At the 4:02 mark of the second quarter, the Lions score another touchdown, going up by 2 possessions with a touchdown reception from Nico Lamonde to Michael Gimigliano fro his 2nd TD reception of the game.

Montour comes back right before the end of the first half, with Jake Wolfe punching it in for 6 points. 2 point conversion try is denied once again. Bring this game total to 28-18 in halftime.

Entering the 2nd half of play, Montour makes a genius move kicking an onside kick and recovering it.

Lamonde goes for the hat trick, scoring his 3rd touchdown of the night and taking the South Fayette Lions up 35-18 with 9:24 left in the 3rd.

This score being the last score they would make this evening, leaving the South Fayette frustrated through the rest of the game.

Montour still trailing in this game, gives Jake Wolfe energy, keeping this QB rushing game strong, punching in one for himself bring the Montour Spartans within 10 points to the Lions 35-25

Jake Wolfe, commits again, scoring another rushing TD, bringing the deficit to 3 points, 35-32. Montour makes the Game of the Week worthy of the title.

Coming from a 17-point deficit, to tying the game up.

Montour gives the ball back into the hands of Jake Wolfe for his FOURTH rushing TD of the night, bringing the Montour Spartans in the lead for the first time since their field goal in the first quarter, 42-35.

What an achievement and congrats to Coach Lou!!

South Fayette Lions mark the first loss of their season on the board, going to 2-1. 

Next week the Spartans will visit the Aliquippa Quips, who are also undefeated.

The Lions will host Peters Township Indians, who are also undefeated on the season, in hopes to keep that streak going.
