It was a night where Moon’s run game dominated the game. The team collectively ran for 327 yards in the 38-21 victory over Seneca Valley. Several players touched the ball for Moon and eventually wore down Seneca Valley. “We have to create and find depth, we have to find 4 or 5 kids to give the ball to” said Coach Linn.

Seneca Valley started the game with the ball and they got off to a good start. That drive started at their own 45 thanks to a decent run back. After 2 plays they were in Moon territory. A couple plays later Nolan Dworek found the end zone on a 20 yard run to make the score 7-0 with 8:49 in the first quarter.

Moon started their first drive on their own 20. It was a long drive that featured a lot of runs. They crossed midfield on a Tyler McGowan run and a little help with a personal foul on Seneca Valley. Later in the drive after a timeout Moon decided to kick a field goal which was successful on a 39 yard kick by Jacob Weiland. That made the score 7-3 with 2:19 in the first quarter.

Seneca Valley started their second drive on their own 44 yard line. It was looking like another successful drive but it stalled because of penalties and it ended with an interception. Moon got the ball on their own 20 yard line and it was another methodical drive with a lot of runs and was also aided by several penalties. Eventually Moon took the lead when Tyler McGowan connected with Dante Docchio on a 3 yard pass. That made the score 10-7 Moon with 8:10 in the second quarter. “Coming down the field and getting a field goal out of the first drive is big, and then the defensive stop, turned it into points, and we didn’t look back” said Coach Linn.

The next Seneca Valley drive was a three and out and Moon started the next drive on their own 26 yard line. Later they extended their lead on a 4 yard run by Jeremiah Dean. He was one of the key players for Moon in their win. He had 95 yards on 11 carries. That run made it 17-7 Moon.

Seneca Valley desperately needed a response and they did exactly that when Kai West returned the ensuing kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown and suddenly Seneca Valley was only down by 3.

Moon started the following drive on their own 36 yard line. They crossed midfield on another Seneca Valley personal foul and shortly after that Moon responded with a touchdown on a 3 yard run by Dylan Sleva with 22 seconds left before half. “That was huge and the kids responded” said Coach Linn. The score at half was 24-14 Moon.

The second half was more of the same. Moon just wore down Seneca Valley with their running attack. Heat also became a factor when players started cramping up, one of which was Moon’s starting quarterback, but that didn’t stop Moon they just kept getting it done. “That was kind of our mind set, we relied on our seniors and our big boys up front to kind of takeover” said Coach Linn. The drive was capped off on another 3 yard run by Dylan Sleva. He was also a key player he rushed for 115 yards.

Moon and Seneca Valley both added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 38-21. Next week Moon hosts Montour and Seneca Valley hosts Pine Richland.
