When a team only gets one first down, usually things aren’t going well. But, for the New Brighton Lions, things went very well on Friday night. On the second play of the game, New Brighton recorded their first and only first down thanks to a ten yard run.
But, the first quarter was all Lions. A 45 yard run opened the scoring, with two return touchdowns bookending a 30 yard TD pass. A 43 yard punt return for a TD and then a 92 yard interception return made it 28-0 after one. The second quarter finally saw the Riverside Panthers get up the field on an 8-play, 58 yard drive to score their first touchdown of the game. But then New Brighton tacked on three more scores to take a 49-6 halftime lead and set up a running clock for the second half.
With a brisk pace of the second half and questionable clock management by the scorekeeper eating tons of time in the second half, the Riverside squad tacked on two touchdowns late to make it a respectable, though still lopsided, victory for New Brighton.

(normally, I would have a lot of photos of games I’m at. However, my camera failed pre-game. And couldn’t get it working at the last moment. Hopefully will be back at New Brighton some time in the future to properly photograph the game. I also didn’t do frequent updates since I was doing this write-up instead of the quick twitter updates).
