Committed to Sacred Heart

Maxsym Fierle has made his college decision. The Norwin lineman chose Sacred Heart over the like of Carnegie Mellon and Georgetown. Max is the second PA player to pledge his commitment to SHU, earlier this week Twin Valley’s Liam Sheehan committed to the Pioneers. With a 4.0 gpa, Max likely could have written his ticket to many schools, however, he wanted the process over to concentrate on his season.

Coach Mike Brown is proud of his player and says “Max is one of the best young man I have the privilege to coach. His work ethic is unmatched but the leadership aspect he brings to our program is huge. Players young and old look up to Max due to the way he dedicates himself to the program and game. He has earned this opportunity and we couldn’t be more excited for him and his family”.

We caught up with Max to learn about his decision and a little about the player:

Where did you commit?

Sacred Heart University

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to them before your Sr season?

I chose to commit before my senior season because I wanted to not have to be worried about finding a place to commit during my summer and fall season. I wanted to dedicate to my team and always being there for them.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there. , who recruited you?

Coach Saporito was a huge influence he really from day one made me feel very cared about and really appreciated me. That level of hospitality he showed me was really just different from any other schools I have been to.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

I believe they’re getting a sturdy interior D-linemen that can stop a run very well ,but also get in the pocket for a pass as well.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

It has gone pretty well so far I have talked to a good amount of schools ,but only Sacred Heart and Georgetown are the only ones to commit and give me an offer.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

They are getting a 3 position player out of me. They mainly want me as an interior D-linemen ,but also a D-tackle and end.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

I would like to major in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

My mom was huge just being there for me as a person to talk to and ask questions too.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

I am very excited for Sacred Hearts new conference. There’s many good teams in the conference ,but I believe this is good for the team to get new challenges and kept developing to win a FCS championship.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

I am looking forward to get a chance to start over again with new teammates and build my way up into a starter.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I am really big believer in discipline over talent. I believe that you don’t have to be the most gifted or talented kid on the team to be an amazing player. I believe that discipline will teach you a mindset that will dominate any player that you come across the ball against.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

I would have to say my Dad ,even though my Dad isn’t here anymore. His ideas and memory still influences me everyday to kept working hard and be the best football player I can be for him.

Why do you play football?

I play football because I love hanging out with teammates and getting through new challenges with them everyday. Also I love to hit people.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

I always try to be the professional man I can be whenever I meet coaches. I always want to make a good impression on them so they continue their process with me.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Well I want to just thank everyone that has helped me through this long journey from day one of football to now. I believe that some of people that helped me through this just don’t get thanked enough and I really just want to thank you for helping with everything though this journey.

What are your goals for this coming season?

I want to bring my team into a 6A WPIAL championship and win. I also just want to be the best player I can be.

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

I believe it just brings everyone together and I think that is a trait that a lot of communities don’t have now a days.
