Shaler Township: Penn Trafford made quick work of Shaler Area Saturday afternoon in Glenshaw en route to a 54-14 victory over the Titans.

“We need this. We know we have a good team,” said Penn Trafford head John Ruane. “Belle Vernon is a lot better than people thought, and Peters Township is also a thorn in our side. We wanted to get back into the win column, and we did a good job coming out and playing hard.”

The Warriors scored six first-half touchdowns and rolled to a 40-0 halftime lead.

“We know that they had two keys players out today,” said Ruane. “It’s hard for those guys to overcome that. But I did feel like we executed well when we had the ball. I did feel we’d be doing well by halftime.”

Penn Trafford was led by running back Cade Yacamelli, who rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 12 carries and scored the game’s opening touchdown on a 2-yard run.

Quarterback Carter Green also had a big game as he rushed and threw for a touchdown while accounting for 177 total yards of offense in only one-half of football.

Green scored the Warriors’ second touchdown with a five-yard run late in the first quarter.

Penn Trafford then recovered the onside kick and immediately threw a 33-yard reverse touchdown pass.

Wide receiver Tommy Kalkstein connected with fellow wide receiver Liam Hileman to put the Warriors in front 20-0 after a quarter.

“We’ve wanted to go more aggressive with our game,” said Ruane. “We felt up by two scores was a good time to go onside and take a shot. Our kids fed off that and gained a lot of momentum.”

Green tossed a 16-yard touchdown to Jack Jollie in the second quarter, while Seth Dunlap scored on a 1-yard run that was sandwiched in between Yacamilli’s second touchdown of the night from 22 yards out.

Penn Trafford got second-quarter interceptions from Josh Huffman and Michael Frawley, which led to touchdowns on short fields.

“With homecoming, you always come in with high expectations,” said Shaler head coach Jimmy Ryan. “This was a tough one for sure, Penn Trafford solid big-time football team.”

Shaler, which was playing shorthanded, got a third-quarter touchdown when Keegan Semtanka connected with Dom Rossi on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

“I thought this game was going to be a lot closer from the start,” said Ryan. “With their onside kick and our mistakes, it started to spiral out of control. This game had nothing to do with the effort from the kids. It’s always been there.”

Kalkstein returned the ensuing kick for a touchdown.

The Titans found the end zone again in the fourth quarter on Nathan Rozzo’s 4-yard run.

Josh Miller led Shaler with 46 yards rushing on 11 carries.

“Right now, we’re still feeling our way around with the offense,” said Ryan. “Now that we’ve reached section play, we can hunker down and get back to business.”

Zacbarg Skalka capped the scoring with an 11-yard run with 4:26 to play.

Penn Trafford returns to action next Friday night when they travel to Woodland Hills.

“That’s a huge game,” said Ruane. “They have great athletes, they’re physical, and we’re certainly going to need to match that from Woodland Hills.”

Shaler will try to rebound when they travel to Fox Chapel.
