PIAA 6A Quarterfinal Round Preview: North Allegheny vs McDowell

The race for the state title has begun for North Allegheny and McDowell as these teams will clash on Friday night. 

McDowell 8-4 (3-0)

The McDowell Spartans come into this game 8-4 overall and coming off a 47-20 win over State College. The Trojans showed a dominating running game, with a great defensive effort. 

RB Dominic Berarducci is the leading rusher on the team with 790+ yards and 10 TDs. The Spartans also have 4 other rushers with 100+ yards along with 30+ combined TDs. 

QB Blayke Meyers has also been a constant for this team as Meyers has thrown for 2,600+ yards and 30+ TDs. 

The Spartans in seven of their eight wins had 47+ points scored by their offense and their defense in all of their wins held the opponent to 21 or fewer points. 

North Allegheny 11-1 (3-1)

The North Allegheny Tigers are 11-1 overall and are also coming off a win over the Central Catholic Vikings with QB Logan Kushner leading the way with three rushing TDs and two passing TDs. 

Kushner now has 1,400+ passing yards on the year, 1,200+ rushing yards as well and 18 TDs. RB Tyree Alualu after his 100+ yards running game against Central Catholic has 860+ on the year with 15 TDs. WR Khiryn Boyd including playoffs has 630+ receiving yards and 13TDs. The Tigers also have 6 players with 100+ receiving yards.

The Tigers defense in their seven game win streak five of those games the Tigers held their opponents to 14 or less points. 

Overall:

Both teams have scored at least 30+ points in their last six games. McDowell hasn’t lost since October, and North Allegheny since September so this should be a great early round game to attend. North Allegheny is looking for their fourth PIAA championship and the first since 2012, while McDowell is in search of their first state title.
