Death, Taxes, and the Pine Richland Rams dominating their competition in 2020.
After moving down from 6A at the beginning of the year, the Rams have been on a tear, and no team has even given them a competitive game, that didn’t change Saturday night in the 5A WPIAL championship against Peters Township. The Indians, the 3 seed, had to win on a last second touchdown and extra point against Gateway to even play on the same field as the Rams. It turned out that didn’t even matter
Pine Richland broke open the scoring with minutes left in the 1st when Cole Spencer lowered the shoulder on a Peters defender and scampered into the endzone for 7.

Minutes later in the second quarter, Cole Spencer again shined, although this time through the air to Eli Jochem to put the Rams up 14-0. The Rams defense was firing on all cylinders as well as the Indians struggled to sustain drives.
Two minutes later, it was 21-0. Brooks Eastburn took a handoff in the backfield and, untouched, scrambled through the Peters defenders and in. It was already looking dire for an Indians team that looked completely outmatched.

Another quick defensive stop later and the Rams had the ball again, and with 5 minutes left until the half, Cole Spencer delivered for his second rushing touchdown on the night. The rrush made the score 28-0, and an absolute nail in the Peters coffin with the game not even at halftime.

With only 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Pine would activate the mercy rule with a long Brooks Eastburn rush, his second on the night, and a dagger to the heart of the Indians faithful. The game would end at 35-0.

What’s Next?: The Rams will move on in the 5A bracket and will take on the Mustangs of Governor Mifflin. The Mustangs did not play last week after Warwick forfeited the 3A title.
