The battles at the beach continued this week as the Belle Vernon Area Leopards galloped to a 55-7 win over the Mount Pleasant Vikings.

The game began quickly with Mount Pleasant attempting an onside kick only for Belle Vernon to run it back to Mount Pleasant’s red zone. On the first play of scrimmage, Quinton Martin punched the ball in for the Leopards and following a successful PAT attempt brought the lead to 7-0.

The Vikings punched back 2 plays later with an outside run by Jackson Hunter to tie the game at 7-7 with 10:44 left to play in the first quarter. Just over a minute later, Quinton Martin ran the ball into the end zone from 21 yards out and regained the lead for the Leopards. The Leopards, and especially Quinton Martin, never looked back.

Quinton Martin did not slow down in the game scoring from both sides of the ball. Martin scored running, receiving, and off of an interception.

After the game, Martin didn’t just remark on himself  “It really was a team win. Everyone came out and did their job and the scoreboard says it all,” Martin said.

Although Martin showed up most on the scoreboard, the Leopards’ offense was firing on all cylinders. The rushing attack in particular was effective.

The Vikings often; were incredibly gutsy in their play calling, going for a large portion of 4th downs. As seen in the early stages of the game, the rushing attack when given the opportunity was explosive. However, the Leopards’ defense was able to bottle up the rushing attack throughout the game.

Unfortunately, the Vikings also fell victim to their own errors on multiple occasions. Whether it be from the opening onside attempt, fumbling the ball deep in their own half, or throwing an interception, the Vikings worked against themselves.

The Leopards were decisive and clinical in converting to points. Apart from a missed PAT and having the outside wide open on the touchdown run, the Leopards played a clean game. Ultimately that was the difference as the Belle Vernon Area Leopards beat the Mount Pleasant Vikings 55-7.
