For the first time since 2005 South Park is WPIAL Champions. They did it by running the ball in their 21-14 win over Seton LaSalle. “It’s great for the program, I think our program is in a good place, to be able to see the people that are going to come after them to be able to see who is going to be able to come after them now they’re going to try to live up to what these have done, they understand their is a lot of work to do, it is good for building a program” said Coach Abbey.

South Park got a stop on defense to start the game. They started their first drive at their own 33 yard line. The drive featured a lot of runs and was capped off with a 6 yard run by Eric Doerue. The drive was 12 plays long and took up over 7 minutes of the first quarter. The score was 6-0 South Park with 2:11 in the first quarter. “We were pleased to get off to a good start, the fact we were able to get off to a good start on defensively and then to just take the ball and move it down the field that’s been a concern the past few weeks, we weren’t getting off to good starts , playing a little bit of catch up, for us to be able to get a fast start definitely worked in our benefit” said Coach Abbey

Later in the second quarter South Park took advantage of good field position. The drive was capped off on a 1 yard run by Robert Lenzi. That made the score 14-0 South Park with 8:03 in the second quarter. That drive was another long one that lasted nearly 6 minutes and took 12 plays. “Our mentality all year is to control the football, it isn’t really top priority when comes to what we’re trying to get done, we’re able to grind it out, very confident in these guys to convert , on third and fourth and short, these guys got it done, I’m very proud of them” said Coach Abbey.

Before the first half ended Seton LaSalle was able to get on the board and the score at half was 14-7 South Park.

South Park got the ball to start the second half. Just like they did in the first it was another long drive. The drive ended with an 8 yard run by Eric Doerue. That drive was 11 plays and took up the first 7:07 of the first half. That made the score 21-14 South Park. Doerue was the main player for South Park he had 149 yards on 34 carries.

In the fourth quarter. Seton LaSalle was able to get another touchdown to make the score 21-14 South Park.

On the final drive South Park completed a big pass and after that ran the clock out to win the 2A WPIAL Championship.

South Park now advances to the 2A PIAA Semifinals and will play Riverside.
