The University of Pittsburgh welcomed two fresh Panthers, both joining the offensive lineup. These individuals possess remarkable speed and adeptness in finding openings and generating space. These are two skill sets that will work well in the type of quick-strike offense Kade Bell likes to use.
Malachi Thomas, a formidable 6’4, 230-pound tight end from Thomas County Central High School Georgia, was a three-star recruit upon graduation. During his senior year, he showcased impressive stats with 42 receptions, 570 yards, and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, he boasts the accolade of being a two-time 6A all-state player in Georgia. His speed and ability to dissect coverages make him an ideal fit, particularly in the middle of the field—an area Coach Bell prioritizes in his offensive strategy.
Also hailing from the South, Tyreek Robinson, a speed demon from Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, LA, has committed to the Panthers. Standing at 5’9″ and weighing 151 pounds, Robinson is a three-star wide receiver known for his lightning-fast pace. Despite his height, Robinson is a force to be reckoned with once he breaks free from a tackle and finds even the smallest gap. He uses his 4.4 40-yard dash time to propel him down the field. His speed fits with the offensive vision of Coach Bell at Pitt, who emphasizes scoring quickly and making swift advances down the field. Robinson is poised to make a significant impact in this system.
With the addition of these recruits, Pitt’s 2024 class is now complete. Each player Pitt has signed this year is a puzzle piece that strategically fits into Coach Bell’s offensive playbook, filling crucial roles and addressing deficiencies seen in last year’s offense. This marks an exciting moment for Pitt football fans, as the team undergoes transformative changes and aims to reclaim the same dominance they had when they earned their first ACC title in 2021.
