Tale of Two Halves: West Allegheny crushes South Fayette in 2nd

The game did not start auspiciously for West Allegheny. The opening kickoff return was fumbled by the host West Allegheny Indians and setup the visiting Lions for a quick scoring opportunity. Capitalized by Nate Deanes on a 7 yard inside route. Another disastrous turnover, this time a pick in the endzone, negated another West Allegheny possession. Two turnovers by South Fayette evened the sloppiness of the game between the two squads. However, West Allegheny had to rely on the leg of Brayden Lambert for points. First from 37 yards and again from 40 yards. The booming kick could’ve been good from 50. As the time wound down in the half, West Allegheny had possession and were stalled far from the endzone once more. And called on Lambert once again. A third attempt was unsuccessful, as the 47 yarder missed.

Trailing 7-6 at the intermission, West Allegheny had made some adjustments that seemed to work. A Nodin Tracy touchdown from 6 yards out gave the host Indians the lead they wouldn’t relinquish. West Allegheny would take that slim 12-7 lead into the final frame and put up four more touchdowns. Nodin Tracy with two (from 15 and 22 yards), Brock Cornell (from 8) and Michael Woodson (from 22 yards) would cap the scoring all on the ground.

Defensively, the Indians punt team worked well. Tipping a kick for a short net yardage, and swarming the punter on another try to prevent even the attempt of a kick. Two takeaways in the second half led to points as the two squads started to see separation in the scoreboard. West Allegheny would win going away, 40-7.
