Every year it seems there’s a team in PA that has a line we all believe will dominate play throughout the season.  This years edition belongs to Pittsburgh Central Catholic.  Loaded with players who have long lists of D1 offers, the Vikings lines on both sides of the ball are attracting the attention deserved. Earlier this year AJ Beatty chose to commit to the Tar Heels.  Last week, offensive lineman Thomas Hartnett became the second member of the Vikings line to make his commitment. The 6-3, 290 Hartnett will continue his athletic and academic career at one of the finest institutions in the country, Dartmouth.  He made his announcement on twitter:

PAFootballnews.com caught up with Thomas and asked him about his decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

Thomas: Since 7th grade butI wasnt able to play during eighth.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Big Green:?

Thomas: Dartmouth is where I felt most wanted they really seemed to like me and the campus/facilities were outstanding. I also really like coach Clark, the Oline coach. He seems to understand the game very well and be a terrific coach and an even better man.

PFN: Why commit early?

Thomas: The commitment process was really stressful and I wanted to make a final decision before the school year really kicked off, and Dartmouth was a great fit. I wouldn’t have committed early if I wasn’t confident in my decision. I’m extremely excited to just focus on the season now and finish high school on a high note, as well as looking forward to the next 4+ years.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Dartmouth, who recruited you?

Thomas: Coach Keith Clark, the Oline coach was our region’s recruiter, so he was the biggest influence on the part of Dartmouth. It obviously really helped that I got to know the Oline coach and develop an early relationship.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Thomas: I would say Dartmouth is getting a really flexible lineman. I believe I can effectively play and understand all 5 positions.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Thomas: The recruiting process was both stressful and enjoyable. I had the opportunity to go to so many amazing places which was the enjoyable part but trying to make it everywhere and please everyone was the stressful part.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

Thomas: I was recruited as an offensive center. But, the coaching staff has expressed they may try me out at multiple positions.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Thomas: I want to get a degree in psychology and minor in marketing and/or stats.

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

Thomas: My mom and my entire family helped me see so many amazing schools so I knew I was making the best decision. Also my mom gave me the freedom to decide what was best for me.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Dartmouth program?

Thomas: Within the Ivy League they are a powerhouse, consistently competing for the championship. The coaching staff as well seem extremely personable and knowledgeable about football

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Big Green Land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Thomas: Something that probably isn’t interesting but is something is that I’m huge movie fan, and have enjoyed he past two years working at a movie theater.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

Thomas: Probably my Aunt Eithne. She has always been the biggest football fanatic through my life always pushing me towards excellence.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Thomas: Probably something along the lines of this being my dream to go to an Ivy League and play football over playing power 5.
