For the first time since 2007 the WPIAL Finals won’t feature Aliquippa. Thomas Jefferson put an end to Aliquippa’s 16 straight championship appearances with a 38-21 win. “I didn’t even know that honestly, they’re a great program so it doesn’t surprise me that they got that many, we’re excited to be able to get back to the championship game and just move on” said Coach Cherpak.
Thomas Jefferson got the ball to start the game and it was a great looking drive, on the second play they were already into Aliquippa territory. However in the red zone the drive ended with an interception.
Aliquippa started their first drive on their own 20 yard line. The drive was a three and out and on punt the ball was blocked and Thomas Jefferson started the second drive on Aliquippa’s 24 yard line. “We saw that on film and we felt there was no way we weren’t gonna block it just something we saw on film we put that block together” said Coach Cherpak.

The 8 yard run was Tyler Eber’s third touchdown of the game. The drive took up 7 minutes of the third quarter. “He’s just a machine, he wants to run the ball, he wants to put the team on his shoulders, the thing is it’s a group effort, they’re on the side of line like let’s run it, let’s pound it down their throat, and once we got it into the game that we wanted to be like that using the clock and running it, it really affected them, they had to try and make big plays” said Coach Cherpak.
Aliquippa wasn’t ready to go away. Early in the fourth quarter Marques Council found Qa’Lil Goode on a 33 yard touchdown pass making the score 35-21 Thomas Jefferson with 11:45 in the fourth quarter.
