WPIAL Hammers West Mifflin program over use of ineligible player

The West Mifflin football team has been handed a heavy penalty for using an ineligible player during the 2019 season.  During a closed door board meeting last night the WPIAL determined that the Titans used a player that was in his fifth year of high school. The team is ineligible for the 2020 football playoffs.

Because of this, West Mifflin must also forfeit all wins from the 2019 season. The school has been placed on probation for 2 years and Head Coach Rod Steele and the West Mifflin administration have all been censured.  They are also required to submit a plan to the WPIAL that will show how this mistake will never happen again.

This isn’t the first time a team has been banned from the playoffs for using an ineligible player. In 2013 District 12 banned the Prep Charter girls basketball team from the playoffs for using ineligible players.
