Jaeden Zuzak, who is a senior at California and the star running back, came into tonight’s game with 13 touchdowns in three games.  Tonight, he finished with over 400 rushing yards, seven touchdowns, and an interception.  Thanks to his efforts, the Trojans leave victorious over the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets by a final score of 65-22.  Here is how he got those numbers.

Zuzak says that he attributes his success tonight to his offensive line, who gave him the holes and reads he needed to make those huge carries.

“I’ve been waiting on this moment for eight months now”

It definitely showed that he was waiting to put on a show tonight and he delivered.

The crowd always loves when the home team gets up on the scoreboard first and that is exactly what happened.  20 seconds into the game, Zuzak rushed for a 63-yard touchdown on the first play of the game.  The point after was no good and now the Rockets need a way to answer back.

The Rockets did indeed answer as senior running back Jonathan Wolfe rushed in for the score from 18 yards out.  Their two-point attempt was no good and now the game is tied at six a side and it has not even been two minutes yet.

The two teams saw their next drives end with the foot of the punter as the Trojans went three and out and the Rockets could not convert on a 3rd and 16.

Once California received the punt from Jefferson-Morgan, just two plays into the drive, Zuzak struck again.  This time, he rushed in for a 72-yard touchdown.  The two-point conversion was no good and it was 12-6 to California.

Jefferson-Morgan looked to have a rebuttal, but junior linebacker Ethan Fike for the Trojans jumped on a loose ball for a turnover.  California used this to their advantage and called on Zuzak.  He rushed up the middle for a 46-yard touchdown.  The Trojans again tried for two, but to no avail.  The score was 18-6 to wrap up the first quarter.

To start the second quarter of play, the Rockets were looking at a 3rd and 13.  Junior quarterback Colt Fowler looked for an open target, but instead found Zuzak and he was picked off.  The Trojans could not use the momentum from the interception to score, so they punted the ball after going three and out.

After Jefferson-Morgan could not convert on a 4th and goal, California took the ball at their own six yardline.  The first play of the drive, Zuzak went up the middle from his own end to the other end for the Trojan touchdown.  Junior kicker Conner Vig sank his first field goal of the night and the score is now 25-6.

It did not get any better for the Rockets as when they got the ball back, senior defensive back Kwondre’ Porter of the Trojans, recovers a fumble to put his team on the Rockets’ 31-yard line.  Jaeden Zuzak caps off the drive with a two yard touchdown.  The point after was good by Vig and the score is now 32-6.

The Rockets get the ball back and they go to work as senior wide receiver Owen Maddich gets a pass and gets plenty of yards.  The Rockets get even more yards as the Trojans took a personal foul call and they found them on the 12 yard line of the opposition.  Jefferson-Morgan took a holding call, which would back them up to the 26.  Then, the unthinkable happens: on a 2nd and 20, the ball goes flying over Fowler’s head and jumping on the loose ball was senior Seth Rerricha for California.

The Trojans would make good on Rerricha’s recovery as junior quarterback Damani Stafford takes the ball himself for a 53-yard score.  With the point after good, it was now 39-6.

Junior quarterback Damani Stafford (#1), evades defenders for the Trojan touchdown.

The Trojans did not have to wait long as Rockets running back Jonathan Wolfe was running the ball and then he was stripped of the ball by Porter, who took the ball to the Jefferson-Morgan five yard line.  Zuzak would continue to pad his stats as he registered another touchdown.

To bring the first half of this game to a close, Fowler found Maddich open for a 54-yard touchdown for the Rockets.  The duo ended up on the stat sheet again as Fowler found Maddich for the two-point conversion.  The score was 46-14 in favor of the Trojans.

Senior wide receiver Owen Maddich runs for extra yards for his team.

Jefferson-Morgan would start off the second half with the ball, but Fowler would be picked off again.  This time by Nathan O’Savage.

The next drive for the Trojans is certainly noteworthy, just not for them.

Owen Maddich looked like a completely different player whenever he got in on defense for the Rockets.  He sacked Stafford on back to back plays for a total loss of 21 yards and to top it all of, he blocked Vig’s punt, putting the ball on the 20 yard line in Trojan territory.

Jefferson-Morgan did not waste the efforts of Maddich as Fowler ran the ball in for the touchdown.  Wolfe would be successful on the two-point attempt and it was now a 46-22 ball game.

The Trojans would not let this go unanswered as they marched down the field with their offensive weapons all the way to the opponent’s one yard line where Ethan Fike plowed through the line of scrimmage for the touchdown.  Vig’s kick was good to make it 52-22.

The Rockets would get the ball back and the immediatly give it back to the Trojans as Fowler threw another interception to O’Savage for his second of the game.

On the last play of the third quarter, Zuzak ran for a 42-yard touchdown to give the Trojans the 59-22 lead.

Jefferson-Morgan would take the field one last time and get to the Trojan 44 yard line, but freshman defensive back Spencer Petrucci intercepted the ball.  California would use Petrucci again to make the final score 65-22 to the Trojans.

Jefferson-Morgan will look to put this loss behind them as they travel to take on Mapletown.  California will be heading to Carmichaels for a highly anticipated match-up.  Both the Trojans and the Mighty Mikes will find out who will come out to be 5-0 and who will be dealt there first loss of the season.
