As of RIGHT THIS MOMENT, we WILL have football this summer!!!
A few All Star game updates:
BROCKWAY – The 5th annual Frank Varischetti All-Star football game has been postponed to Friday, Aug. 7, at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, June 26. Game Manager Nick Hoffman said, “Our decision combines our desire to play the game and honor the outstanding scholar-athletes who have been selected to play and our commitment to do so in the most safe and responsible way possible in light of the Covid-19 situation. “We hope playing the game at a later date means players along with their families, friends and fans will have the opportunity for a much-needed respite,” Hoffman said.
The Frank Varischetti All-Star game features graduated seniors from 21 schools in District 9 representing the former Allegheny Mountain League and the Keystone Shortly Athletic Conference.
Game Sponsors fund $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to a number of players at halftime.
AML schools include Bradford, Brockway, Cameron County, Coudersport, Curwensville, Elk County Catholic, Kane, Otto-Eldred, Port Allegany, Ridgway, Sheffield and Smethport.
KSAC schools include Brookville, Clarion, Karns City, Keystone, Moniteau, Punxsutawney, Redbank Valley, St. Marys Area and Union/AC Valley.
“The 82nd Annual Erie Lions Club Save an Eye High football game is scheduled for July 17th 2020 at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium. At this time the game Day committee is continuing planning for this historic game. Obviously in light of the current situation this may change but until we receive official notification from the powers-that-be this game is still scheduled to be played on July 17th. Thank you for your continued support of the Erie Lions Club and the Save-an-Eye Game.” Doug White,
The Big 30 Committee wants to reassure all of the participants, who have committed to the 2020 Big 30 Charities Classic football game, that no changes are planned for the Big 30 event schedule at this moment. The Big 30 Football Committee Chairman will be sending emailed communications to all players within the next week. That email will have the 2020 Schedule of Events attached to it.
There have been some brief delays in getting player invitations to a few football players in New York because schools were closed after invitations were sent and prior to the coaches receiving them. We will not fill those positions until we hear from those recently invited players. Please do not delay the sending of those responses though. Jerseys will need to be ordered within the next week.
As a reminder to all those football players who accepted their invitations or cheerleaders, queens, and coaches who have, otherwise, committed to the game, the first Big 30 event, Press Day, will occur at Pitt-Bradford’s Sport & Fitness Center’s arena on June 14 as long as the campus has reopened prior to that date. I will give new directions to all if that does not happen, which is a possibility. It’s only two months away from today. No matter what happens, you will hear from me to let you in on our plans. As of this moment though, no changes have been planned.
Above all else, be cautious as we all go through this pandemic. Do the things that need done to keep yourself and those you love safe and healthy. Cover your face and eyes when you’re out. Stay home whenever possible though. Wash your hands frequently. Maintain at least 6 feet between you and other people when you need to be away from home. Be safe and we’ll look forward to seeing you all soon. GAME 47 AUGUST 1, 2020 GATES OPEN: 5:00 P.M. – KICKOFF: 7:00 P.M. PARKWAY FIELD – BRADFORD AREA HIGH SCHOOL
