Protime’s D-9 Notes

District 9 still has six undefeated teams through the first four weeks of the 2021 season.  They are Clearfield, Karns City, Ridgway, Smethport, and Brookville all at 4-0 and Keystone is 3-0.

There are two big games this week in District 9, Ridgway visits DuBois and Karns City travels to Brookville.  The Ridgway at DuBois game may be a land mine for the Elkers if they are not prepared.  It is homecoming for the Beavers and they have been right there in 2 of their 3 losses.

The biggest game is the Karns City-Brookville contest.  Both are unblemished on the year.  The Blue Raiders earned a mercy rule shut out over the Gremlins during the regular season last year.  But the purple and gold Gremlins came back in the playoffs to edge the blue and white Raiders by two points.  (See Protime’s predictions on who will win these two games.)

Brookville-Karns City 2020 regular season. Brookville won 44-0.

Noah Lent (QB) of Smethport accounted for 5 more TDs last week and now has a combined 908 yards passing and rushing the pigskin in 2021 with a total of 16 touchdowns (throwing for 7 and running for 9).  Charlie Krug (QB) of Brookville passed for 246 yards and 3 scores last week.  He now has 863 yards passing in 4 games and 10 TD tosses.  Dan McGarry, Curwensville’s quarterback had himself a week last Friday when he threw for 294 yards and 4 scores.  Mr. McGarry now has 1,038 yards on the young season with 9 TDs.

Christian Coudriet, St. Marys, had 273 yards and 3 touchdown passes in their win over Punxsy.  Talen Reese of Bradford threw for 3 TDs in a losing cause to Ridgway.  QB Bryson Bain aired out 3 scores for Redbank.  Karns City’s Eric Booher zinged the ball for 2 TDs and 152 yards.

Curwensville’s Ty Terry caught 8 balls for 167 yards and a couple of scores, while Brookville’s Brayden Kunselman only caught 2 passes but they went for 102 yards and both went for touchdowns.  According to MaxPreps they are 1st and 3rd in PA in reception yardage (Terry 591 and Kunselman 484).  Ryan Cooper scored 3 touchdowns 3 different ways for his Union/AC Valley Falcon Knights.  He returned a kickoff 85 yards, had a 27-yard pick six, and caught a touchdown pass.  Ashton Kahle of Redbank Valley returned 2 punts for scores.  RB Mark McGonigal of Clearfield rushed for over 100 yards and a TD.

On defense Carter Terwint, Union/AC Valley notched 12 tackles and Layton Ryan, St. Marys brought down 11 ball carriers to show the way.  Team-wise Brookville and Clearfield have only given up 26 apiece to lead the district in least points allowed.  Redbank Valley is #11 in Pennsylvania in points scored with 185.

  1. Clearfield 4-0
  2. Karns City 4-0
  3. Ridgway 4-0
  4. Saint Marys 3-1
