South knocks off North in 8th Frank Varischetti All-Star Game (highlight reel included)

Brockway – The South Squad earned a 44-34 victory in the 8th Annual Frank Varischetti All-Star Game.

Starting quickly, the South jumped to a 21-0 lead with just over eight to play in the second quarter.

Punxsutawney’s Zeke Bennett scored on a 7-yard run on the game’s opening possession – Bennett led the South with 62 yards rushing on the night.

The Karns City teammates of Eric Booher and Micah Rupp connected on a 57-yard touchdown passes 68 seconds into the quarter.

On the next play from scrimmage, Keystone’s Tyler Albright returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown.

The North cracked the scoreboard when Drew Chadsey of St. Marys caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Port Allegany’s Drew Evans early in the second quarter.

Peyton Hetrick of Punxsutawney booted a 22-yard field goal to close the first half with the South comfortably ahead 24-6.

Following a fumble recovery early in the third quarter, a gadget play pushed the South’s lead 31-6 as Central Clarion’s Ashton Rex tossed a 17-yard touchdown to quarterback Eric Booher.

The North came back to cut the lead to 31-14 after three quarters when Kane’s Ricky Rampogna hauled in an 8-yard touchdown from Evans.

The Karns City connection of Booher and Rupp connected for the second time, 46 seconds into the final stanza from 26 yards out – Booher threw for a game-high 301 yards and two touchdowns while adding the receiving touchdown.

Micah Rupp, meanwhile, had only two catches but made them both count for 83 yards and two scores.

The two teams then traded scores as Ricky Rampogna scored his second touchdown on a 2-yard run – while Redbank Valley’s Cole Bish scored from a yard out with 2:45 to play.

The North capped the scoring when St. Marys Charlie Coudriet threw a 25-yard touchdown to Kane’s Landon Darr with seven seconds to play.

Coudriet threw 110 yards, while Evans passed for 163

Logan Mosier of St. Marys returned a fumble for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff that was the game’s final play.
