Drake University rolls to a 51-32 victory over Davidson University

Drake and Davidson traded blows from the jump in a game that had zero interest in a slow start. Davidson struck first on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Casey Bullock to AJ Adams, but Drake answered immediately and then some — Riley Warzynski found Willis Nofsinger for a 15-yard score to tie it, then a Cody Blicharz rushing touchdown and a second Nofsinger touchdown, this one a 37-yard strike, had the Bulldogs up 21-7 before the first quarter even wrapped.

The scoring barely slowed from there. Drake tacked on another rushing touchdown and a field goal to take a 31-14 lead into the half, but Davidson wasn’t going away, chipping in a touchdown of their own to stay within striking distance. The third quarter turned into a track meet — Drake’s Aidan Garcia hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass, Adrien Robbins broke off a 62-yard house call, and Davidson answered twice through the air, trading scores possession for possession as the margin stayed right around three touchdowns.

Drake put the finishing touches on it in the fourth quarter with a 45-yard Chase Spellman touchdown run, and while Davidson kept fighting to the final whistle with one more score, it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. When the dust settled, Drake had escaped with a 51-32 win in a game that saw both offenses combine for over 700 yards of total passing and neither defense able to find much of an answer all night.
