Elizabeth-Forward dismantles South Park on Thursday night

The South Park Eagles traveled to face the Elizabeth-Forward Warriors. The Warriors scored on their first drive of the game and never looked back. South Park found themselves down 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and they continued to be kept out of the endzone. After the full 60 minutes had passed, the final score was 45-0.

To open this game, the Warriors began at their own twenty-four yard line, but an immediate delay of game penalty changed that to the nineteen. This did not hinder Elizabeth-Forward from driving all the way down the field and eventually capitalize with a one yard touchdown run by Travis Dusi after quarterback Kaden Allen connected with wide receiver Logan Rider for a twenty-two yard gain down to the one. The extra point was unsuccessful making the score 6-0.

After a touchback on the kickoff, the Eagles began their drive at the twenty. On their first play from scrimmage, South Park fumbled the ball and Elizabeth-Forward recovered it three yards in front of the goal line. Two quick runs put Allen in for another Warriors touchdown. The two-point try was caught by Geo Thompson to give Elizabeth-Forward a fourteen point lead with less than seven minutes left in the first quarter.

South Park started their next drive at the twenty yard line again and after two runs, Eagles quarterback Kolby Kostelnik connected with Mikey Schwartzbauer for their first first down on the game. That success was short lived though and South Park quickly punted the ball away. The Eagles defense held up on the next drive for the Warriors though, and they forced a punt. After a quick three and out by the Eagles offense and a big punt return from the Warriors, EFHS looked to capitalize on great field position. That is exactly what they did, as running back Rocco Thompson broke loose for a thirty-one yard touchdown on the first play of the drive. Another drive by South Park was quickly ended and the Warriors offense took the field once again. After two first downs, the quarter came to an end. Elizabeth-Forward then had a long drive that took them all the way to the South Park thirteen yard line. On third down, Allen took it in himself for another rushing touchdown. On South Park’s next drive, their quarterback threw an interception to Warriors’ defender Ryan Dolekary. Elizabeth-Forward punished the Eagles for their offensive blunders quickly, as Rocco Thompson took in a four-yard rush for his second TD of the day.

After yet another three and out by the Eagles, Elizabeth-Forward set up in the opposing territory. It looked as if they may score again, but on third down the Eagles’ Josh Duncan shot out through the offensive line and took down the Warriors runner. This forced a field goal and kicker Luke Holdren drilled it through the uprights. South Park then drove down the field desperately trying to put up points before the half but they were stopped on fourth and short. After two more plays, the half had finally come.

With their opposition leading 38-0, South Park began the first drive of the second half. Elizabeth-Forward’s defense stood stout once again and the Eagles were forced to punt. The Warriors had no trouble driving down for yet another rushing touchdown to make the score 45-0 with 4:52 on the third quarter clock. That would be the last time the crowd would see points tonight. The next South Park drive ended with a fumble recovered by Jace Rider. The two teams then exchanged turnovers on downs and Elizabeth-Forward drained out the clock to 0:00.

Elizabeth-Forward (3-0) will host Waynesburg Central on September 17, and South Park (0-3) will continue to search for their first win against Laurel Highlands.
