The trip from Fairview in Western Erie County out to Russell and Eisenhower High School is a unique experience for those who make the voyage. Google/Apple Maps will give you 3 options, and despite the fact that both schools are in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 2 of your options will take you up into the state of New York and then back down south into Warren County, Pennsylvania.

Riley Memorial Field, known by the locals as “The Pasture of Pain” thanks to the amount of farms in the area, is located just 2.45 miles south of the Pennsylvania/New York border, and is one of the more one-of-a-kind Friday Night experiences you will have in all of District 10. It features a thin gravel track, the old style uprights that are about half of the height of the regular ones you’ll see in most stadiums, and when you crouch on one sideline, you won’t be able to see the shoes of someone across the field given how strongly the field slopes for drainage purposes.

With District 10 shuffling Regions this past offseason, the Fairview Tigers found themselves traveling to Eisenhower for a region game for the first time since 2004 (a 42-14 win on October 1st), and very nearly came away with the same scoreline.

Junior QB Cullen O’Connor (#2) threw for a school record 242 yards on 13/19 passing and 1 touchdown, senior wide receiver Joey O’Reilly (#21) came through with an all around performance, finishing with 81 yards receiving and 1 touchdown while also scoring on 3 2-point conversions to go along with 8 tackles and 2 TFL, and senior running back Caden Oldach finished with 154 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 13 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, senior Javis Nesbitt finished with 13 tackles, leaving him just 52 shy of tying the school record of 370 career tackles set in 2007 by Pat Michael.

The Tigers improve to 1-1 (1-0 in Region 3) and are at home next Friday against arch rivals Girard from next door, while Eisenhower fall to 0-2 (0-1 in Region 3) and are on the road next Friday as they travel to Corry.
