Fairview and Harbor Creek found themselves in a tight contest heading into the 4th quarter, but it was the Huskies’ rushing attack that helped them pull away from the Tigers and led them to a 40-14 non-region win on Friday night.

Harbor Creek raced out to an early 17-0 lead, but Fairview was able to mount a comeback and make it 20-14 heading into halftime, a score that would stay the same through the entirety of the 3rd quarter. Despite all of Harbor Creek’s dominance throughout the game, the Tigers had the chance to equalize or take the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, but Cullen O’Connor’s pass was intercepted at the goal line by senior defensive back Caspin Herman, and the Huskies never looked back after that.

Senior running back Gavin Zillman finished the game with 265 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns on 34 carries, including a 51-yard TD to cap his night – Zillman is now up to 954 yards on exactly 100 carries and has scored 17 rushing touchdowns through 4 games played. He is also up to over 1,000 all-purpose yards on the season thanks to his duties as a kick and punt returner.

Harbor Creek was led by junior QB Connor Fortin who threw for 93 yards on 5/11 passing, and junior running back Brady Powers helped Zillman out in the backfield by providing 74 yards on the ground on 9 carries. Senior kicker Joe Wagner knocked in 2 field goals and finished with 10 points on the night.

Fairview’s Cullen O’Connor, despite his 4 interceptions, threw for 168 yards on 14/30 passing and 2 touchdown passes to Joey O’Reilly and Noah Bajek, and senior running back Caden Oldach ran for 76 yards on 14 carries.

Harbor Creek (4-0, 2-0 in Region 5) will travel to Waterford next Friday for another non-region game as they take on the Fort LeBoeuf Bison, while Fairview (2-2, 2-0 in Region 3) returns home for the 1st of 3 straight home games as they play Conneaut Area Senior High out of Linesville for the first time since the 2017 season, also a non-region contest.
