First Half Barrage Leads Parkland in Rout of Stroudsburg, Gives Moncman 100th Win with Trojans

Head coach Tim Moncman notched his 100th victory with Parkland on Thursday night, as three first half touchdowns by TJ Lawrence spurred on a 35-0 defeat of the Stroudsburg Mounties. The victory also marked Moncman’s 200th head coaching victory, which most notably covered his ten seasons at Liberty, including a state championship in 2008.

Stroudsburg mustered a first down on its opening drive, but was quickly forced to boot the ball away to the Trojans. On their first play from scrimmage, TJ Lawrence picked his way over the left side, tight-roping the sideline, breaking six separate tackles, and moving laterally across the field as part of a 72-yard touchdown run.

 

Blake Nassry and the defense held Stroudsburg to no yards on the ensuing possession. The Mounties backed themselves up to their own 7-yard line after consecutive illegal procedure fouls. Forced to punt near their own goall ine, the ball was taken cleanly by Jackson Geroulo at the Mounties 39. He shook off one attempt at an arm tackle and raced to the end zone, putting Parkland up 14-0 midway through the first quarter.

Stroudsburg mounted a fight on their third possession. Jack Mitchell had some time in the backfield and made the most of it, completing a 33-yard pass to Munch. The Mounties crossed midfield but opted to punt on 4th & 6 from the Trojans 47. The punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback. Four plays later Finn Coen completed a pass out in the flat to Lawrence. Lawrence had to reach for it, but made the catch and shed three tacklers, racing to the house for a 21-0 first quarter lead.

The Mounties got their best play of the night on their next drive. Mitchell fired deep and connected with Josh Ivers-Green, setting up Stroudsburg on the Parkland 10. However, the next snap went through Mitchell’s hands and he pounced on it for an eight yard loss. On the next play, Mitchell fired into the end zone, but double coverage made Jackson Geroulo look like the intended receiver for an easy interception.

Parkland turned to Tycen Norman on their next drive, and he delivered a pair of really tough runs, picking up gains of 20 and 16 yards. The Trojans grinded the drive out over 11 plays, culminating with a 1-yard touchdown push by Jaren Sanchez. With 6:27 to go in the half, Parkland was in cruise control, up 28-0.

Stroudsburg approached midfield one more time, but kicked the ball away. And unfortunately for the Mounties, the ball went right to TJ Lawrence. Lawrence again shook off four or five would-be tackles and busted his way to the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown. Parkland took the 35-0 lead to the locker room and the mercy rule was in effect for the second half.

Parkland ran just 33 offensive plays on the evening, but still managed 209 yards on the ground and nearly 300 total. Stroudsburg ran the ball 22 times, averaging a little over two yards per carry.

The Trojans have now won three consecutive games after dropping their opener to Phillipsburg. They will be at Northampton next Friday. Stroudsburg fell to 2-2 and will be on the road at Pocono Mountain East next week.
