Last Year it took two overtimes for Freeport and Highlands to decide a winner. This year it didn’t require overtime but was still a good one with Freeport coming away with a 24-16 win over Highlands.

Freeport got the ball to start the game and went three and out. Highlands fumbled on their first possession. Freeport’s second drive was also a three and out. The rest of the first quarter was more of the same and the game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

That gave Freeport a 7-3 lead with 5:24 in the second quarter.

Highlands next drive started at their own 20 yard line. After an offensive pass interference, on the fourth play of the drive Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg was off to the races scoring on a 67 yard touchdown run. That gave Highlands the lead right back 10-7 with 3:52 in the second quarter.

King was a key player in the win for Freeport he was 17 of 25 for 195 yards in the win. “He’s been doing that all year, big touchdown passes, I mean he’s just a great athlete” said Coach Gaillot.

The second quarter was certainly a wild one. It featured 4 lead changes. “I’m glad I have a good heart because it’s nerve wracking yeah it just started going back and forth, back in forth” said Coach Gaillot. “It was just a great high school football game” said Coach Bonislawski.

Highlands got the ball to start the second half. The drive started at their own 22 yard line. The drive was five plays and all of them were runs by Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg. He had all  78 yards on that drive and scored on a 1 yard run. That gave Highlands a 16-14 lead with 9:02 in the third quarter.
