Berwick has been dealt with adversity all season. Their starting quarterback has been injured since Week 4. Tonight was the first time all five of their offensive linemen have played together since Week 3. Gavin Galutia scored all three of the Bulldogs touchdowns and the defense got several stops including a goal line stand to end the first half as Berwick got a 24-8 victory over Crestwood on the road to improve to 5-4 on the season. “The brunt of the work load has been gone to Gavin. He’s such a work horse, tough as nails. He’s a thrill to coach, tough as nails. One of the toughest kids I’ve met in my life.”Said Bulldog head coach CJ Curry of his senior running back.
Crestwood started with the ball and went three and out. Berwick drove the ball to the Comets 26 but faced a fourth and 11 at the Crestwood 32 yard line and Shiloh Escobar’s pass fell incomplete and the Comets took over. However, Crestwood went three and out. Bulldogs took over and on the first play, Gabe Decker gained 37 yards to the Comets 15 yard line. Two plays later, Gavin Galutia scored from nine yards out to make 7-0 Berwick with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter.
After Crestwood failed to convert a fourth and 2 at their own 38 yard line. Jake Lisnock gained 28 yards then Galutia scored his second touchdown of the night from 12 yards out to make it 14-0 with 51.5 to go in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Comets looked to score but the next drive ended with an interception in the end zone by Escobar. Crestwood did another chance late in the second quarter. The Comets had a chance to get into the end zone but the Bulldogs defense held strong and stopped Teddy Taylor the goal line to keep Crestwood off the scoreboard during the first half.
The Comets elected for an onside kick but the kick went out of bounds and Berwick took over at midfield. Galutia carried the ball six times and eventually scored from two yards out for his third score of the game to make it 21-0 with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter.
Crestwood looked to score but the Bulldogs defense forced another turnover on downs. The next Berwick possession ended with a 28 yard field goal by Caleb Yost to make it 24-0 Bulldogs with 8:01 remaining in the game.
Crestwood did get on the board as Taylor found Braylon Murray for a 26 yard touchdown. They got the two point conversion as Taylor found Logan Lawson to cut the lead down to 24-8. The Comets attempted an onside kick but the kick went out of bounds and Berwick took over. They ran out the clock as the Bulldogs took a 24-8 victory on the road. Crestwood travels to Valley West. Berwick plays host to Dallas.
