Last night I headed back down to the Portsmouth area to finally see Sciotoville Community (Portsmouth East), a place and team I have had on my hit list for a while. They played host to Manchester, another team I was seeing play for the first time. Entered this one 1-0, with the win coming over Bishop Rosecrans 22-20. For Manchester (0-1) they came in fresh off of a 56-0 loss to Cincinnati Country Day. Mancher only has 18 players on their roster but only dressed 15 for this one. East has 27 on their roster, with only one senior. Before getting into the game I wanted to thank everyone for the hospitality. From the lady working the concession stand for unlocking a gate so I would not have to walk a long way to the front gate, to the guys from the radio station for providing me with rosters and for the guys in the press box allowing me a window all to myself.

Cam Justice would go on a 40-yard run to get things started for the home team. Landehn Pernell would score on a short run followed by a two-point conversion run to put East up 8-0, with 10:52 left on the clock.

A bad snap, one of many that would hurt Manchester allowed Tyell Barker to sack Braiden Brown for a loss of 12-yards. When East got the ball back Leviticus Justice, the lone senior on the roster would use a Barry Sanders-like spin move to avoid a would-be tackler on his way to a gain of 32-yards. Pernell picked up 17-yards setting up a 10-yard score from Justice. Cam Justice eased in for the two-point conversion to make this a 16-0 game with a little under four minutes opening quarter.

Austin Baughman picked up 26-yards on a nice run to set up his own 22-yard touchdown with 9:25 left in the half. Justice crossed the goal line to convert another two-point conversion making this a 24-0 game. Manchester would only throw five times after all was said and done and they completed all five. The first one came with 7:43 left in the half with Rylan Bailey finding Ronnie Elam for 25-yards. East would stiffen up and stop the drive a short time later. With 48.1 seconds left in the half, Pernell squeeze in from 4-yards out. Keagan Jackson converted the two-point conversion to make this 32-0 game.

With the running clock, the 2nd half flew by heightened by the fact both teams kept the ball on the ground. Justice would recover a fumble on the kick-off to start the half. Justice would take the ball down to the Greyhounds 9-yard line on a 15-yard run. From there the drive would get to the 4-yard line where Justes scored then after a bad snap on the point after kick Baughman would pick the ball up and cross the goal line to make this a 40-0 game. Manchester never quit and this showed bigtime when Rylan Bailey rumbled and stumbled to a gain of 20-yards. Aaron Lucas would find Lucas Smith for a gain of eleven. Lucas would cross the goal line to give Manchester their first points on the young season. Lucas Smith ran in the two-point conversion try to make this a 40-8 game and that is the way this one ended.

The (2-0) Tartans will to South Gallia (1-0) next week. South Gallia plays River Valley later today. Machester has (1-1) Miami Valley Christian Academy.
