Hopewell cruises to easy win over Central Valley

After a loss last week to Propel Braddock Hills, Hopewell looked to bounce back against a familiar foe in Central Valley and that’s exactly what they did in their 34-6 win.

Central Valley got the ball to start the game and thanks to a good kick return they started the drive at midfield. After a third down conversion to the Hopewell 36 yard line, a few plays after that, they decided to go for it on fourth down and didn’t convert.

Hopewell started their first drive of the game at their own 43 yard line. On the first play a pass was completed down to the Central Valley 40 yard line. On the sixth play of the drive James Armstrong scored on a 17 yard run. That made the score 6-o Hopewell with 7:22 in the first quarter.

 

Central Valley started their second drive at their own 20 yard line. It was a long drive that got inside the Hopewell 40 yard line. Once again they decided to go for it on fourth down and didn’t convert. Hopewell’s second drive got into Central Valley territory but eventually ended on a fumble.

After the Hopewell turnover Central Valley looked to capitalize on it. The drive took up a huge chunk of the second quarter which featured a lot of runs. Eventually the drive was finished off when Ethan Bosco scored on a 2 yard touchdown run. That tied the score at 6 with 3:24 in the second quarter.

 

Hopewell started their next drive on their own 23 yard line. They quickly got into Central Valley territory and eventually James Armstrong scored on a 39 yard touchdown run. That gave Hopewell a 13-6 lead with 1:13 remaining in the second quarter.

 

Central Valley got into Hopewell territory on the final drive of the first half but ended on an interception. All night Hopewell’s defense was able to step up big and get turnovers and also had plenty of pressure and sacks.

Hopewell got the ball to start the second half and the drive started around midfield on the first play a pass was complete down to the Central Valley 34 yard line. A couple of plays later James Armstrong found Avery Bokor on a 12 yard touchdown pass. That made the score 20-6 Hopewell with 9:11 in the third quarter.

Armstrong was the key player in the win for Hopewell. He had 4 total touchdowns, 2 were rushing and 2 were passing he was 9 of 12 for 168 yards passing. “He’s an unbelievable player, he makes big plays when it counts, and you know it’s time and time again this is what he does” said Coach Mottes.

 

Central Valley got the ball for the first time in the second half. the drive got into Hopewell territory but that drive eventually ended on a turnover on downs.

Hopewell started their second drive of the second half at their own 31 yard line. On the second play of the drive a pass was completed down to the Central Valley 22 yard line. Eventually the drive was finished off when Armstrong found Nasir Wade on a 4 yard touchdown pass making the score 27-6 Hopewell with 2:37 in the third quarter.

In the second half Hopewell was able to take control of the game and their offense moved down the field with ease and their defense continued to dominate. “Just made a couple of adjustments, cleaned some things up a couple penalties we got rid of and just came out and played Hopewell football” said Coach Mottes.

 

On the following drive Central Valley was able to get into Hopewell territory and that drive ended on an interception. After that interception Hopewell’s drive was plagued by penalties and ended with a punt.

Before the game ended Hopewell was able to get one last touchdown making the final score 34-6. Next week Hopewell hosts Western Beaver and Central Valley hosts Hampton.
