Interboros backfield does it all in victory over Strath Haven

On Friday night, the Interboro Buccaneers took down Strath Haven in a run-heavy matchup by a final score of 20-6. Interboro’s offense and defense were stellar the entire game.

Here were my pregame thoughts

Interboro won the toss and elected to defer to Strath Haven, giving the Panthers offense the ball to start the game. Haven relied on the run game on their first drive, battling the bad weather and a slippery and muddy field, making it difficult to air it out. The Panthers took the ball up to about midfield before facing fourth down. Interboro’s defense stuffed Strath Haven on fourth down, giving the ball to Interboro at their own 49.

Following the turnover on downs, Interboro begins to lead a nice drive, but after a few bad penalties, the Bucs are backed deep in Haven territory. This was the start of a trend of offensive struggles, with the 3 drives following this resulting in two punts and yet another fumble.

Interboro kicked off their next offensive drive following the Haven punt with a big rush from Momodu Rogers, placing the Bucs in the red zone with plenty of time left in the first half. The Bucs, facing a stop on their own one-yard line, ran a trick play to Jason Clark for the first score of the game. The Bucs led 6-0 with time dwindling in the first half.

Haven punted it away again after the Interboro touchdown, and the Bucs ran out the remainder of the first-half clock.

Here were my  halftime thoughts

Interboro kicked off the third quarter in the most electryfiyng was possible, a big kick return touchdown from Darryl Jones. Jones used his speed and strength to get to the outside and find open space, creating the touchdown. The 2pt conversion was no good, and Interboro now led 12-0 with 11:45 left in the third.

The next two drives were punts, with the last punt being an Interboro boot kicked away to the Strath Haven Panthers.

Strath Haven immediately got to work on their next offensive drive, with the Jalen Starr – Jake Plunkett connection looking strong as Starr’s big reception set Haven up in the red zone. The run game finished things off, as Landon Barlow took it in for the score. Styers extra point was blocked, giving Interboro a 6-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Interboro got the ball to start the fourth after the Barlow score, and the Bucs chewed up a lot of the clock. Interboro’s run game kept gaining first downs but ran a lot of clock in the process. Finally, Interboro found the endzone as Mason Marshall-Speights ran his way in for the touchdown and 2 pt conversion, giving Interboro a 20-6 lead with 6:46 left in the game.

In possibly their last drive of the season, Haven used both the pass and run game to drive themselves downfield. Haven took about 3 minutes to get down to the 1-yard line, where they faced a tough Interboro defensive line. The Bucs line held strong, stopping Kasey Hudson and the Panthers.

Interboro took over on downs and knelt out the remainder of the clock, taking a 20-6 victory over Strath Haven.

Here were my postgame thoughts.

After the game, I met with both Momodu Rogers and JJ Clark of Interboro
