SHAMOKIN- It’s been long time coming after losing head-to-head match-ups for the Bulldogs of Jersey Shore against the Indians of Shamokin. Jersey Shore finally got over the hump Friday night at Kemp Memorial Stadium with a 26-6 victory and a trip to the District 4 4A championship game next week.

After a scoreless first quarter, with Shamokin driving deep into Bulldog territory a pass from Freshman quarterback Evan Pancher found his tight end Cru Schrorer over the middle, as Schroyer headed for the end zone. Cornerback Khani McCray knocked the ball at the one yard Nolan Pauling scooped up the loose and returned it to the Bulldog 36. On the next play from scrimmage Pauling hooked up with Carter Rhinehart in the right right flat, Cater did the rest scoring from 63 yards out for a 7-0 lead with 5:51 left in the half.

On their next possession Jersey Shore would strike again as Pauling, wh was 9 of 22 passing for 191 yards, found McCray in the front corner of the end, zone, McCray made a leaping catch over the defender for another score, the point-after was no good leaving the score at 13-0 with 3:16 left.

With just 19 seconds left before intermission Pauling would connect with McCray on almost the same exact play, this time McCray caught a brilliant time toss from Pauling along the left sideline of the end zone for a 17 yard score, the two-point conversion failed leaving the score at 19-0.

Rhinehart caught three passes for 119 yards and the one score. McCray hauled in 4 passes for 75 yards and the two touchdowns.

Shamokin had a chance to score just before the half two long passes from Pancher and a face-mask penalty on the Bulldogs pushed the ball to the Jersey Shore 11 but the last attempt fell harmlessly to the ground as both teams headed to the locker room.

“This is a tough place to play, they (Shamokin) have some great talent they have outstanding coaches. I am so proud of our players to get this win.” and Elated and relieved coach Tom Gravish stated after the game.

Shamokin outgained Jersey Shore 328 to 308, but the Indians were only 3-for 15 converting 3rd downs in the contest. The Bulldogs dropped a 35-14 decision to the Indians in week 4. Logan Steele was back in this game for Shamokin, but had a large cast on his non-throwing hand, and was not as much of a factor, Steele also played at wide-out and running back as well as on defense.

Pauling would close out the scoring with a tough 11 yard score, the ball did come losse but he had already crossed the plane of the goal line. Rhinehart connected on the point-after leaving the score 26-0 with 9:28 left in the third quarter. Pauling also rushed for 38 yards on 12 carries.

Shamokin avoided the shutout with 2:53 left in the contest when Pancer hit Cooper Rossnock over the middle, avoided a couple of would-be tacklers for a 40 yard score making the final score 26-7.

Next week Jersey Shore will face Shikellamy for the District 4 4a title as the Braves edged out Selinsgrove 20-17 Friday night. Shikellamy did hand the Bulldogs an earlier season loss by the score of 56-27 on September 25th.

The Indians, who were the PIAA top team for much of the year closes their season at 8-3, with consecutive losses to Blue Mountain, Mount Carmel and the aforementioned Jersey Shore.
