Kiski School Defeats Wyoming Seminary to Improve Record to 5-0

The Kiski School Cougars hosted the Wyoming Seminary Blue Knights Saturday in Saltsburg, PA. Kiski entered the contest having won its first four matches of the season, while Wyoming Seminary was 1-2 coming off of a tough road defeat at Saint James School.

The game was very physical and a battle in the trenches, typical for a Kiski – Sem matchup. The Cougars would take the victory 33-12; Kiski’s offensive success was catalyzed by very strong offensive line play and QB Joe Felitsky, who moved the Cougar offense with both his legs and arms, generating over 250 yards of offense on the afternoon.

First Half

Kiski received the opening kickoff from Sem, and marched 68 yards with Felitsky distributing the ball to WRs Greyson Daugherty and Omari Shirriel. Felitsky and RB Mason Jones also made gains on the ground, and the drive was capped by a 3 yard TD run by Jones. Kiski missed the PAT but was up 6-0. The Kiski defense, dominant on the season, started off strong, forcing the Blue Knights to punt. Kiski would drive 61 yards on the second possession of the game, capped by Felitsky keeping the ball for a 10-yard TD run. Will LeComte added the PAT to put Kiski up 13-0.

Kiski’s defense again stopped Wyoming Seminary with TFLs by DE Owen Urschler and LB Max Woerner. Felitsky would waste no time on Kiski’s third drive, connecting on a beautiful deep pass to Shirriel for a 55-yard TD completion. Another LeComte PAT made it 20-0 Kiski at  the end of the first quarter.

Wyoming Seminary would get a great kickoff return to the Kiski 43 yard line, and would grind out a TD drive capped by QB Nelson Martinez’s 2 yard keeper. A missed PAT made it 20-6 Kiski. The teams would exchange punts, then Kiski would drive into field goal range on consecutive completions by Felitsky to Daugherty, DeWayne Johnson Jr, and a hook-and-ladder to WR Curty Wade and Omari Shirriel. Aided by a facemask penalty on SEM, Kiski was in range and LeComte converted a 33 yard FG as the half expired to put Kiski up 23-6.

Second Half

Sem would start the second half with another long kick return. A TFL by Woerner was followed by a tipped pass by CB Logan Graham. The tip was caught for an interception by LB James Harrison III, stopping the Blue Knights. Kiski would again efficiently mix the pass and the run to move the ball to Sem’s 15 yard line, where LeComte again would connect on a 32-yard FG to put Kiski up 26-6.

Safety Patrick Maignan would intercept Martinez on the next drive, setting up Kiski at the Sem 25 yards line after a 14 yard return.  Maignan would turn around and rush the ball several times, capping the short drive with a 13-yard TD run (PAT LeComte) to extend Kiski’s lead to 33-6.

Wyoming Seminary would manage to generate a turnover in Kiski territory early in the 4th quarter, resulting in a 3-yard TD pass from Martinez to RB John Smith. A toss run plays to Smith was stopped for an unsuccessful two-point conversion. Kiski was up 33-12.

Kiski’s defense would clamp down the rest of the way, with several TFLs by Woerner and DT Jason Gross leading the way. Sem would manage to block a Kiski FG attempt, but could not manage any more offensive production in the game. Kiski would kneel out the clock, improving their record on the season to 5-0 with a 33-12 victory.

The Cougars totaled 376 total yards of offense on a short field all afternoon. Kiski has now won 3 straight contests against Wyoming Seminary.

The Cougars will go back on the road to face 1-2 Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ next Saturday. The Blue Knights drop to 1-3 and will travel to take on the Pennington School next Saturday.
