When Valley View tied the game nearly halfway through the fourth quarter and at their own ten yard line, Abington Heights needed to play ball control. The Comets got a big play as Noah Kayal found Cooper Manning for a big gain and Abington Heights got the ball to the 12 yard where they lined up for a field goal with 1.3 seconds left by Jack Hartshorn. He made the field goal as Abington Heights took a 24-21 road victory over Valley View. “Ball Control offense is a good defense. When we control the ball like that and keep the ball out of our opponent’s hands. The ability to run the ball tonight opened up our ability to throw the ball. That was a huge factor tonight.” Said Comets Head Coach Joe Repshis.
On the Comets second play of the game, Abington Heights fumbled the ball and Valley View recovered at the Comets 16 yard line. The Cougars took advantage as Jeff Wasilchak scored from one yard out to make it 7-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Comets answered on the next drive as they went 13 plays, ending with Anglin scoring from eight yards out to tie the game at 7 with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter. Valley View looked to answer and did as Colin Dempsey found Cash Roe four times during the drive, ending with duo connecting from three yards out to give Valley View a 14-7 lead with 8:38 remaining in the second quarter.
Abington Heights went on a six play drive as Noah Kayal found Rodman Azar for a 54 yard touchdown to tie the game at 14 with 5:55 remaining in the second quarter. First play of the Cougars drive, Dempsey’s pass was tipped and intercepted by Thomas Reese and returned to the Valley View one yard line. Kayal then scored on a one yard touchdown run to give Abington Heights a 21-14 lead with 5:37 remaining until halftime.
Valley View looked to tie the game and faced a fourth down and four. They lined up to punt and they attempted the fake punt on a Cash Roe run but was short of the first down by two yards. Abington Heights was unable to capitalize as their Hail Mary attempt was unsuccessful and the score remained 21-14 at halftime.
The Cougars got the ball to start the second half and got the ball down to the Comets 16 yard line. Valley View lined up to kick a field goal and the kick was no good. Abington Heights looked to go up two scores as we entered the fourth quarter and faced a fourth and 3, but Abington Heights was short and the Cougars took over.
Dempsey went to Roe for a 32 yard gain into Comets territory. A Luke Evans run alongside a facemask penalty got Valley View to the nine yard line. After a 3 yard gain by Luke Evans, Dempsey found Ben Evans for a six yard touchdown to tie the game at 21 with 6:24 left in the game.
Abington Heights took over at their own 10 yard line. Kayal got a first down off a three yard gain on a third and 1. After a two yard loss, Kayal looked like he was going to be sacked as he rolled to his right and he found Cooper Manning for a 35 yard gain to the Cougars 45 yard line. Anglin ran the ball all the way and ran out the clock to line up for a 28 yard field goal by Jack Hartshorn with 1.3 seconds left. Hartshorn made the field goal as Abington Heights took a 24-21 victory over Valley View.
