Lehigh Football Travels to Cornell Looking to Stay Undefeated

Fresh off their bye week, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks will travel up north to Schoellkopf Field to take on the Cornell Big Red. Lehigh is coming off a 34-0 rout of the Fordham Rams two weeks ago that improved them to 6-0, while Cornell is coming off a 41-29 loss to Harvard, falling to 2-2 in the process.

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are 6-0 and leading the Patriot League in almost every category. They are ranked 4th in the FCS as of now and are 4-0 in Patriot League games so far. They also have the longest active regular season win streak in Division 1 Football with 23 consecutive wins. Starting junior QB Hayden Johnson leads the team with 472 yards and 3 TDs, as well as no interceptions. Senior RB Luke Yoder leads the team in rushing with 814 yards and 12 TDs on 127 carries, averaging 6.4 yards per carry, and a receiving TD to go with it. Sophomore WR, Anthony Feaster leads the team in receiving with 228 yards on 11 receptions and 2 TDs. On defense, senior William Parton leads the team with 29 tackles and senior DB Nick Peltekian leads the team with 2 INTs. The Mountain Hawks have been a complete team so far through 6 weeks and look to continue that in Week 8 against Cornell.

The Cornell Big Red are 2-2 looking for a bounce back win against a hot Lehigh team. The Big Red are led by senior QB Garrett Bass-Sulpizio, who has 72 completions for 721 yards, but a 4-5 TD to INT ratio. Junior RB Jordan Triplett leads the team in rushing with 196 yards on 41 carries and has 2 TDs, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Senior Ean Pope is 2nd on the team with 19 carries for 166 yards and 2 TDs, averaging 8.7 yards per carry. The WR core for the Big Red has been a balanced effort with senior WR Brendan Lee leading the team with 173 yards on 13 receptions and no TDs, followed by senior Samuel Musungu, who has 18 receptions for 159 yards and 3 TDs. Sophomore Ja’von Broussard rounds out the WR core with 119 yards on 9 receptions and 1 TD. On defense, the team is led by senior safety Tommy MacPherson, who has 35 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and 3 INTs. The Big Red hope they can lead an upset against the heavily favored Mountain Hawks.

The keys to the game for both teams are to get established early offensively. For Lehigh, that is trusting their rushing attack and Luke Yoder, which has been the catalyst of their success so far. For Cornell, it is hoping they can get their balanced passing attack going, especially if the Lehigh defense is sluggish early off the bye week. While Lehigh is rolling offensively and is the heavy favorite, letting Cornell hang around and potential early offensive rust can lead to a Big Red upset. This game should be competitive, with Lehigh looking to continue their momentum, and a desperate Cornell team looking for a win to revive their season at home. Tune in Saturday at 2 PM to find out who takes the win!
