Looking to rebound from their 38-28 loss at Cornell last week, #11 Lehigh traveled to Villanova looking to stay undefeated in Patriot League play. However, it was not meant to be as Villanova sealed the game, 24-18 on a late 3rd and goal sack. The loss also ended Lehigh’s 16 game regular season win streak against the Patriot League.
Villanova struck first as they took the opening drive 75 yards on 16 plays, culminating in a 7 yard Pat McQuaide TD run. Isaiah Ragland then scored on a 14 yard TD run after a failed 4th down conversion by Lehigh at midfield. Villanova ended the half up 21-0 after a 1 yard TD by Ja’briel Mace.
Lehigh opened the 2nd half with a 75 yard, 11 play drive that saw Luke Yoder run for 28 and 16 yards, finishing with his 5 yard TD. Lehigh got the ball back and a Connor Poole FG cut the deficit to 21-10 at the 2:53 mark of the 3rd.
Lehigh opened the 4th quarter with an 80 yard drive and a Derek Morgan 6 yard TD run. Following a backwards pitch successful 2 pt try to WR Anthony Feaster, Lehigh found themselves within three as the score was now 21-18.

However, Villanova made things tougher, as they put together an 11 play drive that consumed 5 minutes and resulted in a FG with 3:33 left in the game, and forced Lehigh to have to get a touchdown to win.
Lehigh started the drive from its own 5, making things even tougher. After 20 plays, and two 4th down conversions, which included a 7 yard Morgan scramble on 4th and 6 and an 8 yard Bryce Warner catch on 4th and 4, a pass interference penalty set the Mountain Hawks up 1st and goal at the 2 yard line with just under 30 seconds left. 2 incompletions later, Morgan was sacked on third down, the clock expired, and Lehigh suffered their 2nd straight defeat, falling to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Patriot League play, while Villanova improved to 4-4 and 3-2 in Patriot League play.
Lehigh returns home to play Bucknell on Saturday at 12, while Villanova travels to Lafayette on Saturday for a 12:30 game.
