Guys Mills – Maplewood scored on their first three offensive plays and never looked back in a 58-6 victory over Mercer.
The Tigers started their 2026 campaign in style by scoring on all five first-half possessions, taking a 37-0 lead into the locker room.
“We talked to the guys out there all week to get out there early and make some big plays,” said Maplewood head coach Rob Finkbeiner. “We knew with small numbers their scheme would be limited. So we wanted to see gang tackling, tenacity, and flying to the football, and they did that. This gives us confidence moving forward.”
Mason Potosky opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run just 19 seconds into the game.

Senior Kyle Jordan ripped off an 80-yard scoring run, and Ty Neely tossed a 50-yard touchdown to Nathan Leonhart, giving the Tigers a 22-0 lead after a quarter. The only three offensive plays ran by the Tigers in the stanza.
Leonhart and Potosky scored on 29- and 51-yard touchdowns in the second quarter to get the clock into effect for the second half at 37-0.
Potosky and Jordan both went over the century mark, with Potosky rushing eight times for 159 yards, while Jordan ran three times for 111.
“We came out and set the tone right from the start,” said Potosky. “Everything worked out well today; I just wish I didn’t have that fumble. This builds confidence for us.”
Potosky scored his second touchdown of the night on a 23-yard run in the third quarter, extending the lead to 44-0.
Mercer was able to score following a bad punt snap, when Noah Miller-Frye connected with Luke Sable on a 5-yard touchdown pass. The Mustang’s first passing score since 2024.
