Mifflinburg Rides Three Touchdown Night From Landon Moser To 32-27 Victory Over Loyalsock

MIFFLINBURG – It wasn’t by any means a perfect game for the Wildcats, but sometimes you don’t have to be perfect to come out on top. In a matchup that featured plenty of action and plenty of adversity, Mifflinburg emerged victorious over Loyalsock by a final score of 32-27, largely thanks to a three touchdown night from running back Landon Moser.
The Wildcats are one of District 4’s youngest teams in 2026. The squad that won the Wildcats their first ever district title featured 12 seniors that all graduated following the end of the 2025-26 school year. That lack of experience has costed them a couple times so far this year, specifically in their losses to Shikellamy and to Bloomsburg.
“It’s a young team, we’re starting 18 sophomores, and a lot of this kids are playing for the first time,” Mifflinburg head coach Cody Botts said about team’s young stars. “Being in for the first time shows maturity, and we’ve got to continue to get those guys more reps so they are ready for these in-game situations.”
Mifflinburg had their fair share of slip ups in this game as well, a total of 8 penalties and 3 turnovers. However, unlike their matchups against Shikellamy and Bloomsburg, in this game the Wildcats overcame the adversity and pulled through at the end when it mattered the most.
It didn’t start pretty for the Wildcats defense. On the game’s opening drive, Loyalsock showed off their ability to gash Mifflinburg’s defensive line with their rushing attack, marching down to Mifflinburg’s 30 yard line without throwing a pass.
Following an incomplete pass on second down and just a 2 yard run on third down, the Lancers faced a fourth and long situation from Mifflinburg’s 26 yard line. Just when it seemed like Loyalsock’s offense had run out of gas, Dupont completed his first pass of the game, hitting Zion Cobb over the middle on a 26 yard catch and run touchdown. Mifflinburg’s special teams did come up with a blocked extra point, which kept the Lancers lead at just 6-0.
Despite the backbreaking fourth down conversion from Loyalsock on their opening drive, Mifflinburg’s offense looked completely unphased when they took the field for their first possession. On their very first play from scrimmage, Brennen Snyder connected with Grady Brubaker who got behind the defense and wasn’t brought down until after a gain of 41 yards.
“We felt by running the ball, we could set things up in the pass game, whether that be easier reads as far as short pass game, or intermediate stuff, or even second play action stuff,” coach Botts said about the success in the passing game.
The deep connection seemingly kick started Mifflinburg’s offense, and it led to the Wildcats’ first touchdown just 3 plays later. Landon Moser took the handoff straight up the middle and into the end zone for his first of three touchdowns in the game, putting the Wildcats back ahead 7-6.
When it comes to impactful players, almost every team has a few of them, and it can be crucial for teams to have those players on the field. On just the second play of Loyalsock’s next drive, senior wideout Ivan Baker went down with an apparent leg injury that he unfortunately never returned from, leaving the Lancers without one of their top playmakers for the remainder of the game.
Aside from the first drive of the game, Mifflinburg’s defense did a good job of not allowing Loyalsock to get many chunk plays on the ground. This forced the Lancers’ offense to turn to the passing game more often, which wasn’t an unfamiliar sight, considering quarterback Dyson Dupont was fresh off of a 6 passing touchdown performance from a week ago.
Mifflinburg on the other hand was finding chunk plays both on the ground and through the air quite frequently early on. The offense once again seemed to be clicking on all cylinders, driving all the way inside of Loyalsock’s 30 yard line early in the second quarter. However, Snyder’s aggressiveness got the best of him, as he fired a deep ball into double coverage looking for Grady Brubaker once again, but it was Loyalsock’s Matthew Rickard who came down with the ball.
“We needed to control the things that we are able to control, the turnovers, the missed opportunities,” Coach Botts said. “You’ve just gotta keep working, it’s next play mentality, it’s figure out a way to win.”
Even after Loyalsock took advantage of Snyder’s interception, driving 98 yards and scoring on a Dyson Dupont quarterback draw, Snyder still showed no fear. He was able to find redemption on the very next drive, capping off a 69 yard drive with a 2 yard touchdown run that put the Wildcats back in the lead.
“He’s a heck of an athlete, he’s obviously a sophomore quarterback, his first year starting, but he continues to get better,” Coach Botts said about Brennen Snyder. “Obviously some mistakes and other things, but we’re going to continue to give him the ball and let him make decisions.”
Mifflinburg took a 13-12 lead into halftime, and on the opening drive of the second half, extended that lead up to 20-12 on Landon Moser’s second rushing touchdown of the night. Moser was the focal point of the Wildcats’ rushing attack, finishing not only with the three touchdowns previously mentioned, but racking up 216 rushing yards on 24 carries as well.
“We challenged our guys against a pressure heavy Shikellamy team, and since then I think we’ve taken steps,” Coach Botts said about the rushing attack. “We continuously challenge Moser, he’s probably our hardest working kid, he’s one of the best kids I’ve met as far as classroom stuff, and he just deserves everything he has because he’s worked his butt off for it.”
After tying the game up at 20, thanks to a 10 yard connection between Dupont and Rickard, Loyalsock’s defense came away with takeaways on back to back drives. Sophomore defensive back Cooper Cowden came away with both an interception and a fumble recovery on consecutive drive, however neither of the turnovers led to points from Loyalsock’s offense, as three and outs followed both times.
The game remained deadlocked at 20 a piece until about 3 minutes into the fourth quarter when Snyder hit Cameron Schneck on a screen pass, who then turned it up field and ran 27 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. Snyder ended up finishing the game completing 7 of 11 passes for 169 yards, a touchdown and 2 interceptions, along with a touchdown on the ground.
A blocked extra point kept Mifflinburg ahead by just 6 points. With just over 9 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Dupont led his offense on the field and drove 64 yards over a span of 15 plays, taking up almost 6 minutes of game time, taking a 27-26 lead with 3:16 left. This ended up being the last time Loyalsock’s offense touched the ball in this game.
Mifflinburg needed just 5 plays to answer Loyalsock’s go ahead touchdown. On all 5 plays, Brennen Snyder handed the ball off to Landon Moser, going 53 yards and capping the drive off with a 5 yard touchdown run, his third of the game with 1:34 left. On the two point conversion attempt, Snyder found Luke Brubaker over the middle for a wide open completion, but Brubaker could not hang on, keeping the Wildcats’ lead at just 5 points.
Trailing 32-27 with just over a minute and a half left, Loyalsock’s offense likely could have had plenty of time to drive downfield and find an answer. However, their offense never got the opportunity, as on the ensuing kickoff, Cayden Sones had the ball stripped out and recovered by Lucas Shaffer, crushing any remaining hope that the Lancers had.
“Games like these show growth, another game of adversity, another tight one where we need to capitalize on stuff,” Coach Botts said about the win. “I think a lot of stuff we could have controlled better throughout the game, but at the end, we found a way to win, and these guys found a way to step up and change the result compared to what we’ve done in the past.”
With the victory, Mifflinburg earns their second straight win improving to 3-2 on the season, and they will look to find their third straight win next week at home against Warrior Run. Following the loss, Loyalsock falls to 3-2 on the year, and they will try to rebound next week at home against Lewisburg.
