Montour overcomes a late push from Moon in a great week 1 matchup

In what some consider a rivalry game the Moon Tigers made the short drive down to the Thomas J. Birko Memorial Stadium to take on the Montour Spartans in a great week one battle.
The Spartans received the ball to start off the game and took over on their own 20. A couple bad snaps pushed the Spartans back and turned the ball over on downs in Moon territory.
Dionte Henry Jr found Terrance Anderson to take it inside of Montour territory and ended the drive with a 40 year field goal from Jackson Wieland to put Moon up 3-0.
Montour got the ball back and was able to move the ball down the field and convert on 3rd down. Brandon Bennett was able to punch it in for his first of three scores on the night to give Montour the lead 7-3.
To start of the second quarter Moon was able to get a good drive going but multiple penalties stalled the driven and forced them to punt.
Montour was able to capitalize from this and get a big play from Bennett again after he connected with Xander Stern for 76 yards for the score
After a couple stalled drives Moon’s John Anderson was able to recover a fumble at the 49, but gave it right back to Montour after a tipped ball at the line was taken back for 6 by Dylan Liddell giving the Spartans a 21-3 lead
Down by three scores the Tigers kicked it into high-gear with a big play from Ty Ty Claytor to push it into Montour territory and Henry Jr caped it off with an impressive eleven yard touchdown run to cut into the lead heading into half.
Moon came out in the second half and went three and out and then Bennett capped of the drive with a sensational, angry run type run where he was abed to reverse the field not once but twice make a couple Moon defenders miss and the punch it in the end zone for his 3rd score of the night giving Montour the 28-10 lead with 7:52 remaining in the 3rd quarter
Once again, down by 3 scores, Moon answered back with a huge touchdown catch from Richie McMullen to cut the deficit to 2 scores , but it was still 28-17 Montour with the upper hand going into the 4th quarter
With roughly 2 minutes remaining Vandetti took a punt return to the house and then caught the two-point conversion to cut the lead to three, but Moon was never able to get the ball back. Montour ran the clock down and took the 28-25 win in a great week 1 matchup.
Montour (1-0) hosts McKeesport next week, and Moon (0-1) heads to Bethel Park looking to bounce back.
