In New York, the 2026 season started this weekend. Headlined by the 1st Annual Dick Gallagher Kickoff Classic being hosted on Friday night at Broadview Stadium at the University of Buffalo. Saturday would continue the games with a doubleheader at ECC-North.

As part of a twin bill, two Section VI teams were pitted against private schools. McQuaid Jesuit from Section V took on Lancaster at 6pm.While St. Francis from suburban Buffalo took on Bennett/Olmsted from the Buffalo Public Schools at 9pm.

In the early game, Lancaster jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half, adding two more second half scores to win convincingly, 34-14. In the night game, Bennett scored first, before St. Francis racked up the points. Eventually winning, 53-20 to close out the first day of the Dick Gallagher Kickoff Classic.

On Saturday, University Prep from Rochester upended Bishop Timon, 30-3 at ECC-North. In the night game, Canisius lit up the scoreboard, going up 44-6 early in the fourth quarter, eventually winning, 44-14.
