Before I get into the game I wanted to let you know the rosters that I used came from Hudl and MaxPreps.

Last night my nightcap game was Lakewood at Newark Catholic, at White Field in Newark, Ohio. The Lancers came in 1-0, with a win over Northridge Vikings, while the Green Wave came in 0-1, losing A heart breaker the Johnstown. Could the Lancers ride the Wave and improve to 2-0 or would the Green Wave flush the lost from last week against the Johnnies and ride into the sunset with another win over Lakewood? Time showed us the answer and do so, after 12:00 minutes of play, as the Green Wave had built a 21-0 lead. Kyle Langenbrunner picked up 9 yards on a nice little run toward his own sideline for the Green Wave, with 7:47 left in a scoreless first quarter. The Lancers defense quickly responded when, Robby Taylor took advantage of a bubbled snap from Cole Canter, to sack the quarterback for a 7-yard loss. That was the second bobbled snap for the young quarterback on the night. The game was still scoreless with 2:56 left in the quarter but Newark Catholic was about to score 21 points before the clock expired. Things got started when Langenbrunner blocked a Lancers punt, he then scored on A 2-yard run:42 seconds later. Ryan Auer hit the first of six P.A.T.’s to make this a 7-0 game. On the Lancers ensuing drive, Langenbrunner picked up a Lancers fumble and scored from 20 yards out, making this A 14-0 game. With 1:56 left in the quarter Brendan Sheehan picked off A lancers pass, he then went 45 yards for another Green Wave score, after the P.A.T. this was all of A sudden a 21-0 game. The Green Wave defense would get a pick from Tyson Mummey, with 31.8 seconds showing on the clock.
Just seven seconds into the 2nd quarter Canter used his feet to score from 26 yards out, making this a 28-0 game.
Ryan Ogilbee would move the ball to the Green Wave 32 yard line on a fine run. Ogilbee showed flashes of being a dangerous runner early in the game, but the Newark Catholic seem to pick up on what the Lancers staff was calling, making the rest of the game, up to this point nightmarish for the lancer. On fourth and eight from the Green Wave 30 yard line, the Lancers opted to go for it and that risk was rewarded with an Ogilbee to Colt Vierstra reception, all the way down to the Newark Catholic 7 yard line.
Later in the drive, the Lancers faced a fourth and goal from the Green Wave 10 yard line and again they elected to go for it, though this time the Green Wave defense got a stop, when Drew Hess stopped a Lancers reverse on the seven. The half came to a close on a recovered fumble from #54, Donnell Wallace who was stopped just short of the goal line.
After Newark Catholic was called for two penalties on the kickoff, the Lancers would have started the drive on their own 14-yard line, with the penalties they would get things started at the forty-four. The Lancers did not take advantage of the good field position thanks to a fumble by Ogilbee that was recovered by the Green Wave’s Chance Brooks. Newark Catholic would add two final scores in the game both in the third quarter. The first came on a Canter to Grant Moore pass and the last one coming on a Canter to Brandon Buchanan, 44-yard pass.
The last part of the third and the final frame was played with the running clock, with both squads using a lot of the backups to get them some varsity experience. Good luck to both teams next week.
