A little Wednesday night high school football action in Dayton, Ohio had Dunbar playing league foe Meadowdale. Both teams were coming off of wins last week. Dunbar was a six-point winner in overtime against Ponitz Tech while Meadowdale bested Thurgood Marshall by fifteen. With major renovations taking place at Welcome Stadium all of the fans were set on one side with the crowd total somewhere around five hundred they were loud at times and very much into the contest.

Dunbar would get the action started when Jayvian Graves floated a pass right to Ka’Shaun Golden for twenty-six yards. Fifteen seconds later Leo Boykins would recover a Dunbar fumble to put the Lions offense on the field for the first time. The Dunbar defense was up to the challenge as they quickly disposed of the Lions offense in four plays.

Graves hooked up with Golden at the 6:59 mark of the quarter with the result being a 60-yard Dunbar touchdown. After Antonio Casey nailed his point after kick out of the hold from Jaywaun Craver we had a 7-0 score. Early on in this one, it looked like Golden could have a huge night if his number was going to be called a lot. The kid catches well and seemed to have fantastic field vision.

On the ensuing kickoffTristen, Bozeman laid a nice hit on Josiah Scates holding the return man to zero yards. The quarter ended with Davion Fleming picking up 26-yards on a nice run. Fleming was the other player in this one that looked destined to have a huge game if his number was to be continuously called. The Wolverines defense would again make quick work of the Lions offense despite the long run.

Graves better known for running the ball from his quarterback slot would find Darionte White for 13-yards with 8:29 left in the opening half. The defense would rule the rest of the half with two plays sticking out. The first came when Graves was sacked by Chris Devaughs. the second play was another sack this one by Brian Payne Jr. on Scates.

Craver would recover the opening kickoff in the second half to get things going for Dunbar. The drive ended on a Graves interception by Joseph Davidson at the 9:25 mark. Fleming raced to a gain of 28 yards to get the Meadows drive headed in the right direction. Later on, the drive facing a fourth and long Jonathan Warren pulled off a slick fake punt picking up 16-yards to keep the drive going. Payne would get to Scates for a five-yard loss after a tough catch. Dunbar would end the quarter with two nice runs. First, Graves picked up 20-yards, and then Dal’Vontay Young ran for 23-yards.

Dunbar made this a 13-0 game with 9:44 left when Graves hit Craver for a 7-yard score. On the next Lions drive, Flemin was thrown down on the new turf for a short loss by Young. After getting the ball back and trying to run out the clock Graves threw an ill-advised pass that was picked off by Ryan Jackson. With 3:06 left in the game facing a fourth and six, the Lions would get a big 20-yard gain from Fleming. Then with 1:38 remaining facing fourth and seven Fleming ended the shutout with his 12-yard score. The Lions somehow got the ball back before time ran out but lost 10-yards on the drive ending any hopes of a late comeback.
